The Peachtree City City Council will appoint a committee to recommend Scottish-themed names for Peachtree City’s West Village at the July 19 City Council meeting. The five-member committee will be chaired by former Peachtree City Mayor Fred Brown.

The other four members will be comprised of one resident each from the Centennial, Wynnmeade, and Planterra neighborhoods, and one at large resident.

Once formed, the committee will have 90 days to research and discuss possibilities, and will submit three names to the Mayor and Council. All committee meetings will be subject to open meetings laws.

Applications to serve on the committee are available at www.peachtree-city.org and at City Hall. Applications are due to City Hall by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18.

Well, let's see. Unlike the rest of planned Peachtree City, this cobbled together group of communities has no real "Scottish" heritage (Centennial? puh-leeze).

So in the spirit of after-the-fact camraderie, I propose:
"Outer Hebrides" (Scottish state...and hey, it IS near Aberdeen!!)
"Dingee" (a city, AND an apt descriptor of Wynnmeade!)
"Haggis" (Scottish national dish, leftovers in a sheep's stomach...these neighborhoods are PTC's "leftovers", right?)
"Claymore" (the Scottish weapon, not the landmine...although these places were "zoning landmines" for years)
"Belfast" (sure, that's Irish, but let's see if they notice!)
"Dumfries" (why this Scottish state was left off the original PTC master plan is beyond me!)
"Lothian" (Scottish countryside, not to be confused with "Loathesome", although they COULD technically be interchangeable)
"The Highlands" (recognizing the large amount of drug-related activity in these communities)
"Kingdom of Fife" (self-contained petty "kingdom" within Scotland, like in PTC, residents believe they are above the common law. They could have a "Barney parade"!!)
"Scrabster" (a gateway to Scotland, could be used to signify a "gateway to PTC" ..or a "gateway to Coweta", depending on how you look at it!)
