Crash-Peachtree Parkway/Windgate Rd.

A woman was seriously injured Friday afternoon when her car crashed in a patch of trees on Peachtree Parkway just south of Windgate Road.

The victim, whose name was not immediately available, was thrown from the vehicle during the collision. She was flown to an area hospital by helicopter after she was stabilized by paramedics.

Skid marks leading to the crash area showed that the car was traveling north on the parkway before it ran off the road into the median. It rolled over and appeared to have struck a tree before coming to rest on its driver's side.

Although likely, I don't read that the woman wasn't wearing a seat belt.

Also, the trees seem closer to the edge of the road than at other places and likely to cause serious injury if struck. But I haven't been by there lately and really noticed.

There are a lot of reasons one might accidentally leave the road:

- A tire blow-out might cause someone to swerve.

- Being distracted, by a small child perhaps, and inadvertently turning the steering wheel

- Trying to avoid a deer or other animal (or person) suddenly appearing in the road

Is there anyone here who has NEVER talked on a cell phone while driving, adjusted the radio or something similar, glanced sideways at someone, driven while sleepy, forgotten your seat belt, driven too fast, or any of a hundred other unwise (i.e., human) reasons for taking your eyes off the road?

Does anyone consider that there are inexperienced drivers who are learning to drive that could hit one of these trees?

If you do leave the road, no matter what the cause, there is very little shoulder (from what I recall) in which to correct your mistake.

Haven't you ever seen those car crash tests done at 35 MPH? A LOT of damage occurs to the car and usually the driver and/or passenger. That should be a reminder to us all to drive more safely.

An accident can happen to anyone. There seems to be a lack of compassion here (and without even knowing all of the facts about the accident). Perhaps there's no need to cut down the trees, but perhaps they are too close to the edge of the road. Hopefully, someone who knows more about this than just idle speculation will look into it since this accident occurred.

And, for the record, I've never hit a tree nor do I talk on a cell phone while driving, but I do tend to drive a little fast, shall we say. Hey, Gump, we have something in common! Laughing out loud

When I was a teenager, we were taught to keep it between the mailboxes. Anytime you leave the road, you are bound to hit something!!!

Maybe PTC can vote in a 20-foot flat green space for people who are using this accident as an excuse to whine and complain.

I guess we could do that........or here is a crazy idea.......we could all just follow the speed limit and wear our seatbelts.

Sheeesh, its always someone else's fault when we do something stupid and get hurt.

I know the exact spot where this lady was injured -- it always makes me very nervous to drive by that grove of trees in the median since they are just inches from the roadway. I hope after this accident, PTCPW will cut them down or install guard rail to prevent an accident like this in the future.

Best wishes and a speedy recovery to the victim!

If you are scared to drive by that grove of trees, how does it make you feel when you are on a two lane road with cars headed straight at you??? Put on your big girl panties and deal with it. People are turning into such sissies, it makes me sick.

Why don't we cut down all trees and shrubs to remove all possibility of driving our cars or golf carts into them. While we're at it, lets start constructing buildings made of foam. Let's childproof this city so no one gets hurt. Take some responsibility for your self.

Going 40 along the parkway is a breeze, and I may say, a pleasure. If you can't handle it at 40, you need to turn in your license, and your car, all of us will be safer.

what a concept for safe driving.

Pentapenquin...trees are "just inches" from the road ? Give me a break. So sorry about the woman and best wishes for speedy recovery but blame the trees???? Hmmmmm.I really don't want to drive anywhere near you, you'd cause a wreck being so "very nervous".Please stay home.

car leaves roadway, AND YOU'RE BLAMING THE TREES?

Gimme a damn break here.

Damn Trees!

What were they thinking hanging out in the middle of the island like that?

Didn't the parents of these saplings warn them that it could be dangerous to just stand there rooted to the ground?

Granted they've only been there for 20 or so years and in all that time only one car has managed to hit them but still...

Next time they should behave like real trees and leaf.

I do hope the woman involved recovers quickly but unless the tree was j-walking or something, trying to blame a defenseless tree is a bit much.

I can only hope that excessive speed and/or drugs/alcohol weren't contributing factors for the trees behavior.

you have just discovered how weakminded liberals think. Of course it was the trees fault.

Who would dare suggest that the woman should be driving safely?

It has to be Harold Logsdon's fault, doesn't it?

I think they disagree with you on this one. Me too! Smiling But I ain't gonna call you a "weak minded liberal". That you isn't.

I went that way today while slightly exceeding the speed limit and as my bride and I rounded that curve we saw the the spot where the smack down took place. Man... I hope the lady is alright cause she whooped up on those trees real good. I pointed the spot out and "she who must be obeyed" made the comment that this lady must have really been hauling tail and not paying attention. Whatcha wanna bet a cell phone was involved?

Personally, I'm voting to keep the trees with the understanding that if we choose to drive like idiots then occasionally we are going to have to deal with the consequences. Trees or police officers. I'm just thankful she wasn't chauffeuring kids at the time.

I think Bladder should get on his knees and thank God it was the cops that got him and scarred his life permanently and not the trees. Shocked

Lives a life that's free.

(Ahhhhhhhh)
Watch out for that tree.

Out comes Denise Conner!

And when he needs his conservative fix
He goes to his friend Mix[er].

He would like to have coffee with the real deal
That's right -- Mr. Git Real

Well....penta, penta
Penta of the Internet Jungle,
Friend to you and me.
[Would offer to be friends with Rice Maggot but I doubt she likes a "gutterslug" for a friend. Eye-wink ]

Watch out for that tree.

[said in best Elvis voice]
Thank ya, thank ya, thank ya veerry much!

Okay, seriously, the only reason I mentioned this was because IMHYVAO the grove of trees are a bit too close to the road compared to the rest of the parkway. When they are that close, even a small swerve (reaching for the CD player/cell phone or dodging a furry friend) could mean you hit the trees head on. And as I learned from my science classes, the tree obeys the First Law of Motion -- in other words, "that thar tree ain't goin nowhar" so you will go from 40mph to 0mph in a second or less which is not a Good Thing™.

If you doubt my driving skillz Sticking out tongue I challenge you to a friendly game of Gran Turismo. Eye-wink

But really now...let's show some compassionate conservatism to this lady and give her the benefit of the doubt -- maybe she wasn't drunk, maybe she wasn't speeding, maybe she wasn't yaking on the cell phone. Until we know better, let's show her some love and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Until then, I remain your devoted tree killer,

Way to go Git, the whole thing sounds like a Feherty column, doesn't it? Wonder how David would apply this to golf; someone should have hollered "FORE!"

Are you the TONY that Dave was talking about? Smiling That was pretty funny.

Speaking further about "She who must be obeyed", Do you rememeber the conversation the other day about where we were talking about leaving the toilet seat up? Guys.... I found the perfect solution. You actually accomplish two things. First the toilet seat remains in place and secondly you are conserving water. It's simple..... just pee in the sink. Evil

No, but I have been. I do my ab workout everytime I read Feherty. Sometimes I laugh so hard ('cause I've "been there, done that") I get nauseous. Isn't that what a sink is for?

You can wear a seatbelt or not......we have a water shortage right now anyway. Do whatever you want too. If it feels good do it!

I see the 2 cops that we have left made it to the scene.

Slow down and wear a seatbelt. The speed on the parkway is ridiculous. Where is everyone going that they need to be speeding? Publix will have plenty of chicken left when you get there, so relax and enjoy the scenery along the parkway. If you want to speed...take it out to 74!
