Tinseltown turns tin ear to letter

By: Letters to the ...

I received the following response to an email that I sent to Cinemark Theaters voicing concerns about Tinseltown.

My concerns were excerpted from the letter published in The Citizen [recently] and included not only the mice, but also trash all over the floors, sticky stuff on the seats, curt ticket sellers and concessions workers with attitudes.

I also mentioned the fear of entering or exiting the theater due to groups loitering and “hanging around” outside and the rude behaviors of some patrons allowed inside the theater.

My intent was to inform senior management of the deteriorating conditions of their theater in Fayetteville, hoping that they would address some of these issues.

From their response, it is obvious that they have not had the same observations concerning this venue and do not have the same opinion of its condition as I do.

The feedback from my letter that I have received from local residents tells me that a lot of people share my views. I do not wish Tinseltown ill, but I do wish that they would clean up their act so that it actually can again be a safe, clean and enjoyable entertainment choice for movie-goers.

If you have any further comments about Tinseltown, I would suggest that you email the Cinemark management at Mnett@cinemark.com.

Email from Cinemark:

Thank you for contacting us about our theatre in Fayetteville. It is always good to hear from those who live and work in the communities in which we are located. And we are proud to be in those communities.

We are still committed to providing the best entertainment facilities to our loyal customers in Fayetteville and the surrounding area. We have invested heavily, and continue to do so.

Recently we experienced an infestation of field mice. They are a common pest, especially in open areas surrounded by fields and woods; very similar to many of the communities outside the city limits of Atlanta proper.

This is a concern for the operators of any large building, and a lot of home owners and people living in apartment buildings. And, just like home owners, apartment dwellers, and others who operate businesses, we don’t want them, and will not tolerate having them in our building. That is why we immediately took serious action to rid our building of the rodents.

We secured the services of specialists in the pest control business and addressed all issues in our building that would be conducive to rodents getting into our building. We took a serious survey of any cleaning issues and addressed them promptly as well.

In fact, we were inspected by the Department of Health on May 14 and the score was 100 percent. We believe the inspection was a thorough one, and we are proud to have achieved this score.

However, we know, and our manager on sight knows, that we have to vigorously maintain our facility to insure that we maintain the high level of cleanliness in the future.

Despite negative comments from some who may wish ill for us or the Fayetteville community, we continue to provide the best first-run commercial movies available at better than competitive prices. We maintain a secure facility, employing the services of off-duty police officers even though there are Fayetteville Police facilities located in the Pavilion Center.

We are glad that families still consider our facilities a safe place to bring their children, even though we sometimes have to address issues of small, and large, children misbehaving. We want our facility to be a great place for families to attend, as well as provide the environment suitable for the serious movie-goer to enjoy the more refined productions Hollywood provides.

Thank you once again or contacting us. Please let me know if future visits to Tinseltown are not up to your expectations. We will make every effort to see that you and the rest of our loyal customers continue to enjoy our theatre in your community.

I worked there in 2004, there was a mice infestation then, and considering the state of that place it has more then likely been ongoing since then. The storage room for the candy had mice in it all the time. We probobly threw out more candy do to mice then what was sold. The managers there don't care about anything but their paycheck. The General manager was off in Texas most of the time leaving the managers who would chase each other around flirting, and who knows what else, in charge. About the workers being rude, that one falls on both the worker and the consumers hands. Management would not put enough people on the clock. This meant lines were long which added stress to the worker which can cause them to be short with customers. On the same note long lines means customers missing part of the movie which adds stress and has the same result. If your at a movie and something like this happens tell the manager to hire more people to fit the needs of the theater and for them not to critize the worker for the managers incompetance. A word to the wise: If the only "safe" thing to ingest there were the drinks then, what do you think is safe now with things going farther downhill? Eat at your own risk, but to be safe up your life insurence policy upon entering the building. And for those wondering, I wasn't fired, I quit, so I'm not disgruntled, just disgusted. btw sorry for the spelling, it's 5:30 and I have not slept yet.
