Patient XWas anyone else as angry as I was to hear about Andrew Speaker, the Atlanta attorney who knowingly exposed hundreds, if not thousands, of people to TB? I was absolutely astonished when I heard about his extensive travels abroad, when he KNEW he was infected with this. Then, I read that he is a PERSONAL INJURY and Divorce attorney who was diagnosed in JANUARY with TB. What is wrong with people these days?!?! The CDC initially announced that he had "legitimate" reasons for taking commercial flights to and around Europe. I thought that perhaps he had a major family emergency such as the death of a parent or child. And then we discover it was for his wedding and honeymoon! Did it not occur to him or his fiancee to postpone the nuptiuals until his illness had been properly treated? I cannot help but be enraged that this "man" was so selfish as to expose so many other people to this dangerous sickness. I don't think it matters if no one DEMANDED he stay in the country and receive treatment. Nor do I think it's relevant that he did not find out until he was in Rome that it was the highly dangerous XDR strain. He should have had the common sense and courtesy to get well before traveling. How selfish can one person be? I pray that no one that he came in contact with tests positive. If they do, though, I hope they sue him for personal injury and damages. I am not normally a fan of litigation, but in this instance, I think he deserves it. I cannot believe his audacity. Emmyjune's blog | login to post comments |
