Waffle House/Fayetteville

What a relief! I am so glad to hear from posters that our experience in 2003 was not about race! It was the only negative experience that we have had from retailers in Georgia - and being new to the south - we thought it was about race. Thanks for the clarification!

And there is certainly no racism in the north, east or west of any part of the planet. Just right here in the American Southeast.

Did you see a sign at the state line? "Welcome to Georgia- Whites Only." Well, I haven't seen it either but seems like you did.

Today's lesson: Assumptions and what making them turns you into.

Having first visited Georgia as a child in 1951 or 1952; having been in Atlanta in 1963 and experienced racist practices prevalent at that time; - my 'newness' to the south refers to my joy in being a permanent resident here now - and thoroughly enjoying the changes that I have witnessed in regards to race over the years. Unfortunately I have experienced racism since the day I was born in Los Angeles, Ca. when there was a restrictive covenant at the hospital, which forbade Negroes. The intelligent doctors got around this practice by putting Ethiopian on my birth certificate. The south was the region which practiced legal segregation until fairly recently - but you're right - the ugly 'ism based on race is throughout our great country. Today’s lesson: Only an ass makes assumptions.
