I wanted to raise the question again about illegal aliens, but this time regarding the current proposal before Congress. I’ve listened closely to the arguments but haven’t heard anyone bring up what impact legalizing all these people would have on our medical and social programs.

Many of us have worked all of our lives and are rapidly approaching that time when we would fall under Social Security.

We have listened these past years to both Republican and Democrat politicians proclaim that the Social Security system was running out of money and no one to date has come up with a solution.

What impact will adding millions of illegal aliens have on the already failing system? What impact will it have on Medicare, welfare and our other systems? And what impact will legalizing illegal actions have on our social structure? What are we teaching our children? It’s OK to cheat because someone may change the rules to fit their own purposes?

I feel for the millions around the world, the less fortunate. Yet America can’t find it in their heart to free them from bondage in their own countries. Take for example Iraq, Somalia, Nigeria and other Third World countries. Instead we feel some comfort in giving away money to crooked dictators and call that compassion.

If we want to help our neighbors (especially Mexico), let’s work with the Mexican government to develop Mexico to a point where their people could find no need to seek work or help in the U.S. Let’s overhaul our immigrant programs to insure that they are fair and let’s get smart about how we use our resources.

If you agree, write you congressional leaders and let’s move them to action or find new ones with the brains and desire to work these issues out.
