Senate Floor Statement
March 15, 1999

“Mr. President, I want you to listen. I am going to tell you a story of espionage, conspiracy, deception and cover-up–a story with life and death implications for millions of Americans–a story about national security and a President and an administration that deliberately chose to put national security at risk, while telling the people everything was fine.”

If you would like to see what LIBERALS DO NOT WANT YOU TO KNOW click below.

Facts that are not in dispute:

1. President Clinton hosted over 100 campaign fundraisers in the White House, many with Chinese connections.

2. President Clinton used John Huang, Charlie Trie, Johnny Chung, James Riady, and others with strong Chinese ties to raise campaign money.

3. President Clinton signed waivers to allow his top campaign fundraiser’s aerospace company to transfer U.S. missile guidance technology to China.

4. President Clinton covered up the theft of our most valuable nuclear weapons technology.

5. President Clinton lied to the American people over 130 times about our nation’s security while he knew Chinese missiles were aimed at American children.

6. President Clinton single-handedly stopped the deployment of a national missile defense system, exposing every American life to a missile attack, leaving America with no defense whatsoever against an intercontinental ballistic missile.

"Not nine months into the new administration of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, official policy on whether and how to export satellite technology to China – where it can be readily deployed in nuclear warheads atop intercontinental ballistic missiles targeted at American cities – is on the fast track right back where it was during the administration of President Clinton and Vice President Al Gore."

Are you criticizing Bush for not cleaning up Clinton's mess?

"...right back where it was during the administration of President Clinton and Vice President Al Gore."

If so, we are in complete agreement on this issue.

Kind of a strange critisism though isn't it? ("Ounce of prevention and pound of cure" and all that.) That's the "but, but, but Bush did it too" defense that bas loves to acuse people of making.

Are you saying that anything I said Clinton did to CREATE this problem was incorrect?

Honesty Check:

Can we agree that the same is true of North Korea and Iran, that we are cleaning up messes that have thus far gone unresolved (although the Iranian problem can be traced much further back than just Clinton)?

Who coined the term “the axis of evil”?

Who brought these major problems to the attention of the American people?

Which party is working to undermine our military actions in Iraq (the first of three badly needed major interventions against "axis of evil" member states in the world wide war on terrorism and the dictatorships that foster them)?

You keep putting words in my mouth. I guess it’s easier to argue with stuff I didn’t say but it was you who presented this as such a big scandal. You asked: “Are you criticizing Bush for not cleaning up Clinton's mess?” No I am not. I’m asking: If it was such a horror, then why did Bush and Cheney join in?

I agree that Clinton started it. But I seriously doubt it will hurt Hillary, particularly when she says, “Oh, you mean that program that Bush and Cheney continued?”

We might agree on this too: There are better reasons not to nominate or elect Hillary.

We can also agree about the North Korea/Iran messes (by the way did you see my last post about the link)

The Korean mess can easily be traced back to the unsuccessful resolution of the Korean War. My uncle Billy fought there and, from the stories, was happy to leave regardless of the circumstances.

The modern Iranian problem can be traced back to the overthrow of Mosadegh after he nationalized the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company. The Brits were furious but couldn’t convince Truman to help so when Eisenhower came in, the CIA joined with British intelligence and masterminded a coup and overthrew Mosadegh and installed the Shah in a covert operation now known as Operation Ajax.

The term “axis-of-evil” was coined by David Frum, one of President Bush’s speech writers. Is this not right, was it earlier?

“Who brought these major problems to the attention of the American people?” I’m not sure if this is a trick question. I’m assuming the correct answer is: President Bush. However it could be: President Bush and nobody had ever noticed that Iraq, Iran and North Korea were problems until he said so.

“Which party is working to undermine our military actions in Iraq?” That would be the Ba’ath Party and the al-Dawa Party.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend! Between us, we will cover the political spectrum celebrating Memorial Day.
