The Citizen takes top award; thanks readers

By: The Citizen

The winners of the second annual Suburban Newspapers of America (SNA) Local Community Website contest were announced today and The Citizen, with the help of its loyal online readers, placed first in the category of Best Reader Interactivity.

Below are the judges comments about TheCitizen.com:

“The blogs are what make this site the obvious winner. Reader-made blogs provide the perfect forum for users to interact both amongst themselves and with the publication. The weekly poll and ability to comment on stories are just the icing on the cake. Giving people the ability to post their own videos takes interactivity to a new level.”

The Citizen would like to thank its readers and users for your part in helping make The Citizen the best possible newspaper and website.

Congratulations to the Citizen!

I think that a great deal of credit for this award is directly related to the quality of "conservative" rebuttals on this site.

Unlike other sites, where conservative rebuttal consists of hackneyed trite cliches along the lines of "but..but...Clinton!", the Citizen's crack conservative commentators set their rhetorical sites higher: well over 75% of them can now alternatively reply "but...but...Carter!" when cornered and certain particularly bright wingnuts are showing great promise and very soon we hope to have them regale delighted readers with "but...but...Lyndon Johnson"!

LBJ? Oh, you mean the Valium and Vodka President with the Mistress, Madeleine Duncan Brown who had sex with his secretary in the oval office? Didn't he kill someone once, or twice?

Remind me to never invite you to a party. You are the proverbial Baby Ruth Bar in the punch bowl.

Is it me folks or is Hate Boy becoming irrelevant in his hate postings? Thank you Jeff C and Hack for your decent perspectives from the left.

His highness, King Ronaldo Wilson Reagan I, and Queen Nancy I, are surely missed for their rhetoric ("we are doing the best we can").
Such heroes as Ollie North (law ignorer), and Reagan's official borrower of the trillions ( I forgot his name), are really the ones at fault.
We really haven't had enough money since they broke us to even fund social security, a decent health system, and take care of our poor.

The whining ballerina wannabe is what makes this such a great site.

I've always said The Citizen is the best local newspaper.
You print things the other local paper doesn't. Now, you have the best website too!

Thanks Smiling

... that I've become fond of The Citizen and especially the online portion of it. It's great to see real feedback on local stories from fellow citizens (even the extreme ones). One thing that would be kind of cool would be an upgrade of the Drupal software you guys use for thecitizen.com since there are many new features in the newer versions that I think people would like including a "search" form.
My wife comments that I was never this interested in local issues
back in Maryland. Smiling

You good folks have brought a new definition to 'free press' to Fayette, Coweta, and South Fulton Counties. The platform you have provided the citizens is both informative, insightful, and yes .... entertaining!

Congratulations, and THANK YOU!!

Cal... Now that you're at the top of heap could I ask you a favor? May I please have my old position back as chief moderator? I'll try and be good and I'll work for less than you paid me last time. Smiling

Just looking at your Cal Beverly & Company title, I knew you'd be asking for your old job back! Wouldn't know you from Adam's house cat if you walked up to me, but I certainly did see that coming! Good Luck!
