The Starr's Mill Panthers traveled to Gray, Ga. Wednesday afternoon to face the Jones County Greyhounds in the second round of the AAAA playoffs.

Though the Panthers were able to score some runs, Jones County won the series in two games; 6-4 in game on and 7-3 in game two. Ed Cook hit a two run home run late in the first game, but the Panthers made four errors and gave up three home runs in the second game and couldn’t overcome those mistakes.

The Panthers finished with a record of 17-11.
Northgate’s Vikings are still alive in the Class AAAA playoffs after beating Westside, Macon in two games, 15-0 and 6-4. Both games were short. The first game ended in the fourth inning due to the mercy rule and the second game ended in the sixth because of rain.

The Vikings (27-3) will play at Marist (24-6) on Tuesday.

In the Class AAAAA playoffs, East Coweta (23-8) defeated Union Grove in two games on Wednesday, 6-2 and 8-0. Ricardo Billups went 5-for-8 at the plate with a home run, two triples and five RBIs in the series, while Chris Ramos also added five RBIs and Ben Inman went 3-for-8 at the plate. The winning pitchers were Cam Bedrosian and Bryan Blough, both of whom went the distance. Bedrosian struck out wight batters and Blough struck out seven.

East Coweta will host the winner of the Brookwood/Kell series on Tuesday.

Sandy Creek’s Patriots (18-13) bounced back from a 15-1 game one loss to Riverwood on Wednesday to win the second game 6-2 and force a third game at Riverwood on Thursday afternoon. Sandy Creek lost the deciding game 8-3. Riverwood moves on the quarterfinals to take on South Effingham.

It always comes down to pitching strength. You can't give up over four runs per game and expect to go all the way.
