Congratulation Starr's Mill Lady Panthers on your victory over St. Pius and Marist to win the AAAA State Tennis Championship. McIntosh Lady's also put up a valid fight and narrowly lost to Marist in the semi finals.

The Fayette County high school sports programs are truly a force to be noticed state wide - congratulations to all our county's high school athletes, coaches and parents for making a difference. Great Job and Thank You for making Fayette County one of the best county's in the state of Georgia for high school athletics.

The two private schools you named, St. Pius and Marist, both recruit athletes heavily. Of course, they are permitted to as private schools and that is why most schools feel they shouldparticipate in the largest 5A classification.

Marist had won the State Championship for the last 12 years (in a row). Congratulations to Starr's Mill for another state championship.

Whitewater is playing for a state championship in both the boys and girls soccer this Saturday.

Starr's Mill is currently playing the Whitewater girls and the State Championship game was suspended last night at the halftime due to lightning with Starr's mill leading 1-0. The game will resume today at 10am for the second half conclusion. A Fayette County Champion will be crowned.

McIntosh is hosting the Whitewater boys in the state soccer final Saturday at McIntosh. The winner of that game will, of course, be the state champion. A Fayette County Champion will be crowned.

Starr's Mill won the first round and moves to round two of the state baseball playoffs and moves forward after defeating Brunswick 7-5 and 3-2 in the best of three series.

Whitewater baseball also played in the first round last night in Augusta and lost 5-1 and 11-0.

Sandy Creek defeated Gainesville last night in the 3A baseball playoffs by winning the two games 10-5 and 4-3 respectively and moves forward to round two. Congrats to the Pats!

Starr's Mill is also currently in first place at the 4A state track meet.

Of course, if you talk academics Fayette County can compete with anyone in the state and some of our schools are nationally ranked and nationally recognized as academically superior.

The game ended with Whitewater beating Starr's Mill in overtime 2-1. Congratulations to both teams and a great season. Congratulations to Whitewater on a hard fought victory! Congrats to Starr's Mill for being second in state!

Not bad for a little old "south side" county. Where's St. Pius, Marist, and the other "north side" soccer teams in all of this? Eye-wink

(Just a little 'southside' home town trash talking - sorry.)

Not bad for a new High School 3 or 4 years young??. Must be some excellent talent, parenting and coaching in Fayette County to have both the State Champions and runner's up (Starr's Mill) come from the same county. And we still have a few more County teams fighting for additional State honors and championships - Go Fayette
