Filling the VoidWith the departure of Hack, JeffC, myword_mark, and some that I don’t know about since I am relatively new around here, I thought that I should step in to fill the resulting void of opinions at The Citizen. Although my opinions may not match theirs exactly, we can all assume that they are close enough until we hear otherwise. I will start with just a few of the less controversial issues: Iraq – If we pull out now, Iran and the rest of the terrorists win. If we don’t pull out now, then we have to give the troops and commanders our full support. General Petraeus, along with the plan he carried, was confirmed by a vote of 81-0 in the senate. Now, those who are more concerned with political points than the lives of our troops want to undermine his efforts. Bush needs to rally the nation to shut down the defeatists or things will get even uglier. Taxes – Lower tax rates lead to higher growth rates, and thus to a higher standard of living. JFK, Reagan, and now Bush have all demonstrated that. Leave the capital in the hands of the capitalists, not the bureaucrats. The draft – The last thing the military needs is millions of whining punks who don’t want to be there. It would be a complete drain of their resources. If we have trouble getting and keeping the best recruits, then we need to raise the pay to whatever level it takes. We need professional warriors not another huge class of whiners on the government payroll. Immigration – Shut down the flow of illegal immigrants and make it easier for those who wish to come here legally. No amnesty, but those who want to be here legally can go home and get in line. We need more workers, especially educated ones, to bolster the declining ratio of workers to retirees. Free trade – Free trade is an integral part of the free market, and without a free market there is no freedom. OJ did it - and should be banned from all restaurants. I will get to the more controversial ones later. So, Hack, JeffC, et al. rest easy, for I shall carry the torch forward and keep those rascally folks like Mixer, Enigma, and Git real at bay until your return.
