THE FRED

I am a manager for a few country acts out of Nashville. I recently tried to contact The Fred in Peachtree City about booking some of our acts. I called for 4 or 5 days in a row and left a message for someone named Lauren who handles the shows at your local venue. After calling time and time again and getting no call back I called again and finally got Lauren to return my call. Well after my call was returned and I was told I was not going to be dealt with because I told her not returning calls is bad business I was treated very poorly. It was almost like The Fred was better than anyone else. As taxpayers in your county I would push for a manager that knows how the music business works. We were trying to book some quality acts and we were blown off. Yall pay good money to see people and you should have some quality acts. But just to let you know now Peachtree City Ga is not a place that any of our acts will play ever.I am in a business that I deal with people at clubs, concert halls, and lots of different venues I have never been treated so poorly by anyone in my whole career. Maybe one day Peachtree City will be like Fayetteville some of our artist have played there and treated with the utmost respect.Glad your tax dollars go for people to be treated poorly by a city employee

Peachtree City had the most inept mayor in their history a few years ago. He decided he could replace the folks that knew how to book quality acts with folks not associated with any previous administration. He royaly messed up the Fred.

Thank goodness the vast majority of citizens saw after just one term how bad he was for the city. He became a joke all over the metro area of Atlanta, and the voters reponded.

Somehow this newspaper feels he is still worth the time to print his tired and drawn out bs of what he would do today. Had your chance Steve, and it did not take.

It will take some time to get over his bad management of our city, but we will do it. The Fred has suffered through some lean shows the past few years. It will get better as those put in charge will be more in tune to what the local folks here want in the way of entertainment.

And Iraq is Clinton's fault, or maybe Jimmy Carter's?
Seems to me that the former Amphitheatre manager quit when the Tennis Center guy was made rich for nothing. He sidled up to tennis players. (yes, for you word freaks, sidled is a word).
The Tennis Pro took our million dollars with him in salary and fees.
Amphitheater must make up for the debt. Is that million plus paid yet?

The former director(Kristi Rapson) left, sued the Dev Auth and lost. Her replacement Donna Romeo had been working for a few years with Rapson and she was let go by Brown's newly-created "Tourism Authority." That was the beginning of the downturn in show quality as well as sponsorships.

Yes things have gone downhill and the people in charge are certainly not up to the task, but we had a government purge down here a few years ago and now that the Development Authority is not in charge of the venue (The Fred) everything is falling off - attendance, revenue, quality of acts - you name it. Alcohol sales are up, but that's a different subject.

Many have chosen to skip The Fred and go to Fayetteville. I would encourage you to get your acts booked in there instead. It is easier, the staff is really professional and the entire experience will be better for you and your artists.

Country acts, however should be kept to 1 or 2 a year, in my opinion. Yes indeed we are in the south, but we are not in the mountains.

No one seems to see why the Fred has gone downhill, It is not the people arranging the shows, they do what they are told.
Money is needed for the Tennis Center. Where better to get it than from the Amphitheater, where they have always gotten some, or from taxes.
The Tennis fiaasco is a rich man's playground that they don't want to pay for. Let taxes and the Amphitheater pay for it!
Cheaper shows they thought would provide more money for the Tennis Center,
It has instead caused attendance falloff.
Where is Fats Domino, Anne Murray, Bill Monroe, etc.?
They cost a little more!
Wise up folks.

Downhill is how I can explain it at best, I was just on the website and the best way I can explain the artist that are playing at THE FRED is washed up at best no hits in MANY years. The mountains is what it takes to be a country music fan.Keep payng your good money to listen to washed up artist that haven't been on the charts in years I live in Atlanta and I have friends that know what I do and said "try to book some GOOD acts in Peachtree City" but I guess it takes REDNECKS to want good music. That was not even the point of the post the point was how I was treated. Well I guess that is not important I will take it like a man.

As a season ticket holder at the Fred, I'm not impressed by hardly ANY of the acts that have played in Fayetteville.

That being said, the Fall 07 series at the Fred is set.

What is the fall series?

Slim Thumper and the icelanders, six local bands who will play for peanuts (literally), Pedro and the boys, straight from the nearest Mexican reataurant, The Twangers from Helen, two dog acts.
Tennis Center must survive, owes over a million.

Man, the last time the Twangers from Helen played the Fred, it was a disaster. There was a shortage of spitoons (hellooooo, Amphitheater Authority, what were you thinking?) and there was so much expectorate in the aisles that PTC had to hire a HAZMAT team to come in afterwards and scrub down the joint.

The kicker: this wasn't even the original Twangers, the last original member (Enos Sue Gruntfinch) died in 1995!!

Enos Sue Gruntfinch had a twin sister who played the tub, Penos Lou Gruntfinch: Now that was an act!

Looking it up on Pollstar.com - the second half of the series includes B.B. King, Peter Frampton and Blues Traveler. Someone told me Rare Earth is also coming. Don't know who the final spot goes to, but Blues Traveler and BB King are going to be great.
