Armed gunman demands cash, lotto tickets ... gets away on foot

$2,500 reward offered by police for info leading to arrest, conviction

An armed man dressed in all-black clothing held up the Shell gas station on Ga. Highway 74 north at Wisdom Road in Peachtree City last night, police said.

The suspect entered the store just before 11:30 and held the clerk at gunpoint, demanding money and lottery tickets, police said. He was last seen by witnesses running into the residential area behind the convenience store, police said.

The suspect was dressed in all black clothing including a black hooded winter coat, police said.

The Peachtree City Police Department is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to call the department at 770-631-2510 or the department’s crime and narcotics information hotline at 770-487-6010. Callers may remain anonymous.

I see the signs of Fayette's demise in these events if the trend is allowed to continue. Anybody who thinks all these additional retail areas don't draw the wrong element into our city just sit back & watch. And yes, I have a carry permit, too. Live through what my family & I have in Clayton and you'll likely do the same. It's unfortunate that there is a strong link between increasing minority populations & increasing crime in an area. But I believe this can be reversed if the minority communities see supporting law enforcement as necessary for everyone's best interests and not 'us vs. them' which is prevalent among some. If everyone gets tough on crime regardless of who's committing it, we've got a chance to keep the upper hand. If not, hello Riverdale II, here we come...

If the clerk would have had the obligatory sawed off shotgun behind the counter. Kind of hard to run when someone shoots you in the heart.

Where is the picture from the security cameras? Maybe one of us could identify him.

Take back Fayette, unless you're with the police, how do you know that? Please take a breath and wait before accusing till we have better pics or a description from the clerk. Eye-wink

I was wondering how long it would take you, the usual suspect, to show up. I'm also not at all surprised that you were nowhere near the high school drug arrest story. What are your predictions on the race of those "perps?"

Hack,

When the minority population ceases to commit the majority of crimes in our fine county, then you have room to talk.

Until then, you sound like a complete idiot when you say stuff like that.

Load up your guns everyone, we need to keep the enemy at bay....

"The Usual suspect" is a reference to a quite famous movie line, "round up the usual suspects." In terms of pointing out the race of a criminal only if the criminal is black, you and Taken aback are the "usual suspects." Does that make me idiotic? I suggest you jump on the love train with me and the usual bloggers. It's good for your hypertension.
As for the minorities committing the majority of crimes, that is a contextual issue. Robbing gas stations, you are absolutely correct. Raping young kids, filming it, seeking and posting it on the internet, you are absolutely wrong. I still wonder what we are supposed to do about the black crime specifically. Good day to you. And I do hope this perp is caught and dealt with appropriately, as I have posted here previously.

Wouldn't want you to have hypertension! $ & Bas/MAV's readings are probably off the charts, but me, I'm just having fun! Smiling

Everyone should read Bill Cosby's speech and apply his common sense to all kids, not just those with darker skins.

However, there is a black culture among some (I'll use a better term if someone can give me one) that results in more criminals (Raheem, for example) than the typical lifestyle of a PTC resident (all skin colors). But then there is Kevin Johnston (sp?) (white) who shot his friend (black) while drinking (& drugs?). Drugs & disrespect for authority seem to be a common thread.

Looking at the crime report I see way too much crime here any more. Seems that a few years ago most of the criminals were from other counties, but not any more. Fayette Co. may be becoming more like Clayton & Fulton Co.

Submitted by thebeaver on Thu, 05/03/2007 - 10:41am.

I am very well read. Everytime I pick up the Citizen News I read yet another story about the crime element overtaking our county.
You see Hack, I prefer to walk through life with my eyes wide open, and now carry a gun (with my concealed permit liscense, of course). I'm just calling it like it is, and if that offends you, then too bad.
I make no apologies to anyone for my comments.

Has was a human you idiot. More specifically, what he was, was a CRIMINAL you DOLT. I get so sick of hearing what race someone 'suspects' a perpetrator is. You don't know you moron. Maybe he's a calcorican asian blackanese! Who cares? He's a &^%$#$%^&* CRIMINAL Einstein.

Try this on for size: If he shoots your racist fanny it won't matter what color he is - only what caliber gun he uses and where he hits your sorry sludge. You think the cop that chased him was white? Gee, I hope so, I wouldn't want him to be Japanese, he would stop and take pictures. Duh. I hope he wasn't Irish - he would be too drunk to drive after him. God knows if the cop was Hispanic he would be taking a nap with his 17 brothers and sisters. Heaven forbid the cop be black, they would just stop and rob another 7-11 (from some Camel Rider no doubt) together.

You know what - people all want the same things Einstein - to be loved, to be accepted, to feel safe, and to be able to enjoy freedom.

Just accept the fact that, like the "escapee from Clayton County", some people (even 'black as night' ones) just want to live in a better place. Stop being afraid to get to know and trust people and judge people on their individual merit.

There are two kinds of people: Good ones, and ‘the other ones’. Judging people or prejudging people makes you ‘the other one’.

Statistics can't be used to predict the behavior of an entire race of people. PLEASE DO NOT ENCOURAGE THIS RACIST IGNORANCE.

Besides, does it somehow matter what race the criminal is? Do you think the victim would feel better if it was say, an Irish Catholic that shoved a gun in his face and took his house payment?

Does race make it a 'hate' crime?

It appears to me that Takenaback is more concerned that a black man came to town than the fact that a criminal robbed a store.

Really just my way of bailing out of this knuckle dragging argument. I put these few in the "Lost forever" column. Let's meet out behind a warehouse so I can lynch a negro sympathizer type of guy, that Takeback is. I imagine he has fantasies of being in the right place at the right time so he can legally kill him a couple of lottery ticket stealers. Unfortunately, Take back's preconceived notions on crimes make him the type to walk right by the cleancut child predator and never give a discerning look. I'm going to climb out of the gutter and shower the residue of these gents off of me.

You know what - you are exactly right. I am a fool for even trying to make a person feel badly who doesn't view others with the same rights and respect he would like to be treated with.

Just please realize that he/she doesn't speak for everyone and we (us white middle aged conservative types) realize how bad he makes the rest of us look.

If you were to use the same twisted logic he did, as some minorities do, all whites would be racist, fear mongering morons. Add that to the prevailing view of conservatives and 'those close minded people' make it really hard on the rest of us 'white as sheet' folks to be seen as what we aspire to be – Humans, Americans, Christians, Conservatives, and good neighbors.

I think I’ll take a shower too. Maybe me and you can go see takebackfayette at work and make him serve us a ‘samich’.

Can you say "socioeconomically disadvantaged"? I knew you could.

This is not to justify anything - I pack heat too girls.

But we should be realistic before you decide there is a race based gene for robbery - there is not.

Try thinking of needing or wanting more than is legally or morally obtainable due to ones fiscal station. It's also sometimes the result of a quick and easy solution to a want or perceived need where the possible reward is thought to exceed the risk.

Just the facts baby.

I feel sorry for you. You are ignorant and blind with hate.

You chose to focus on two or three known perpetrators and disregard all others. Whose next, the Mexicans?

You need to worry more about raising a bunch of little race baiters being abused by their cousin at his trailer than being robbed.

Your response to 'People don’t steal what they already have' doesn't even address socio-economic factors. Here is your well thought out retort:

"have you not read this paper the last 2-3 weeks? The robberies at hudson plaza and big lots were commited by who else? thats right, your daddy "the black man." Now go get ( you insert here)"

Unless you are writing in stream of consciousness, you're an idiot. Start sentences with a capital letter and end them with a period. I won’t bother to address your sentence fragments, non use of apostrophes, misspelled words or failure to capitalize proper nouns since it is obviously beyond your mental capacity.

How do you as a person measure up to let's say oh, Dr. Condi Rice, Mike Steel, or Clarence Thomas, Supreme Court Justice? Just a couple of southern 'black as night' folks so I am sure you are much more successful and contribute substantially more to society- right?

By the way, who are you taking Fayette back from? You must be Chief McIntosh, huh?

You're pathetic. If you really want to take something back, I suggest you start with taking your English classes back over again.

No, that's not "all I can say", it's what I choose to say. See the difference cowgirl?

Actually, I would be glad to meet you. When and where would you like to meet? Should I bring my own sheet or do you provide them? I'll meet you because I like to know what all racist, fear mongers looks like so I can avoid them. Where do you work? I'll come by and see you today.

As for your 'questions':

Maybe (you) they are 'afraid' to go through Riverdale because there are a lot of criminals there- duh?? Personally, I am not afraid to go through Riverdale (although when on my bike I am a little nervous anytime I enter Clayton because I must admit Clayton County has the worst drivers in the nation) but maybe it's because I am not a wide-eyed, fear filled, racist who walks around clutching my wallet. Or, maybe it's because I walk with confidence, am sure of my surroundings, and don't look like an easy mark (of course, I am down to a mere 225lbs. so I guess I am looking rather fit these days Eye-wink.

As for moving to Fayette, if you read my blogs you would see I already stated that I feel they all (even the 'black as night' people) come for the same reasons. We ALL want the same things- even "da black as night man" - "my daddy" as you put it.

Of course - using your 'black as night' criminal logic there is virtually no crime in Alaska, Nevada, Montana, New Hampshire or Wyoming. MS13 that black, oh, never mind – they are Hispanic. Well, God knows that Ted Bundy and Jeffery Dahmer wouldn't hurt a fly. Besides, that black kid that shot up Virginia Tech, oh wait, he was Korean- never mind. Yea, only blacks – there almost as bad as those grease ball ‘Mafia’ guys! Fughettaboutit!

Do you think your racism somehow makes you a 'scary' guy? I think you are just an idiot. Did you want to fight or just find a nice “all white” restaurant to eat lunch together?

Tell me again, where is it you work?

I wonder how much longer it will be before we can get more cops on the road. This wouldn't have happened seven, eight, or ten years ago because we had enough cops on the streets so that every crook would see two or three when they were looking for a place to rob. Now, the cops are overworked, underpaid, and no one wants to help. I guess the crook didn't stop by the soccer fields and relax in the air conditioned bathrooms. Then again there was a recent news areticle that stated that our police department is one of the highest in the Southern Crescent. I wonder why we're so shorthanded if that's the case.

The true horror of this world is not the criminal minds that pursue vile intent. It's the apathetic view by those who stand idly by and point fingers without the will and courage to act.

"Overloaded Police" caught my attention....

The Citizen does us a favor with these stories. Most local papers don't take the effort to get this news out there. Or, they don't want to ruffle feathers. The truth is that although criminals used to fear Fayette, we have a new generation of thugs that are unaware of Fayette's earlier reputation and we have a few elected officials who are making us look like softies. Did you read Carolyn Cary's PartI of Fayette Sheriffs? Wait until you read about Stinchcomb and the others. People did not fool around with our sheriffs or our county. That is changing.

Highway 74 is developing into a corridor of crime that is worse than Fayetteville's 85 or 314. . You can speed up to the interstate and be half way to the hood before the police answer the call. Tyrone Publix will be a war zone that Barry Amos cannot control.

We have politicians like PTC Mayor Logsdon who would rather bail out his friends on the million dollar tennis center fraud and fund the TDK developer road rather than do what should be his JOB # 1-- fully fund and arm law enforcement. Instead, he is screwing around with the PTC PD. Why would I vote for Bruce? Because no one would ever accuse him of being soft on crime. He was tough on crime. The scandal that brought him down was insignificant compared to what everyone else does in political life. Financially, other politicians locally and in Congress, even so-called Republicans, have done ten times more damage to us than Bruce Jordan ever could have dreamed of. I would vote for Bruce for Sheriff.

This increase in crime is all probably a done deal with clowns like Logsdon in office. The increase in crime is the beginning of the end. If the schools erode, there are private school and religious school alternatives. But if crime goes up and our law enforcement is understaffed, underpaid, underequipped and not backed up by the prosecutors and judges, we are toast.

I agree that our county reputation has suffered. When our current DA argues in court that the Georgia drug laws are not Constitutional (this was before his election) we're not going to be taken seriously.

If you look at his contemporaries, there were so many brilliant people during the Enlightenment. Read Jefferson, John Jay, Adams, Marquis de Lafayette, Patrick Henry. Those were people who knew how to communicate clearly and with precision.

What is amazing about his quote is how accurate it truly has become and how close he was to the time in history when things drastically changed in regard to our federal govt. To have that kind of vision and clarity of thought is a testament to the type of intellect and the studies of our Founding Fathers and their counterparts around the world.

But,I won't hold it against Alexis that he was French! Ha-ha!

Perhaps what we are seeing is that the more time we spend watching Jerry Springer, the less time we have to reflect and ponder.

I think that the entire thought process has been diluted due to the speed at which we now live our lives. It's very sad in a way.

I have always taken motorcycle trips as a way to unwind and relax. At least once a year I will take about a week or more and just ride. Usually I go alone. I have no music (for the most part), watch no news, and just check in at least once a day with my updated location and to make sure my wife is okay. I have ridden to Key West, New York, Mexico, North Dakota, Colorado and everywhere in between. Spending 10 hours or more a day, with no interruptions, no music, news, or conversation is very therapeutic. It gives you time to really think.

I feel nearly certain that 'back in the day', with fewer interruptions and fewer demands and distractions, people were able to think more clearly and more deeply.

Maybe we all need to slow down, re-evaluate, simplify, and re-prioritize.

It seems that in today's society most people want instant gratification. Wether it is a job promotion, saving for a house or with the war.

Sorry, this is not a TV show. Things just don't end in a pretty package in 30 minutes or 2 hours. It seems as though humanity has lost perspective of time. During our revolution, troops had to walk or go by boat for the most part. Try walking from Boston to Savannah. It seems that patience was more of a virtue for our ancestors than it is today. If we could turn off the noise for a few days, it really makes a difference in perspective.

Have a safe weekend and happy riding!
