BROWNOUT - T MINUS 3

Which is the real story?
-----------------------------
The students who helped organize the event, Alex Larson and Evan Roth, said they don't feel they were used.

"I had been asking him [Brown] for months ? if we could possibly hold a debate," said Roth, who interned at City Hall and is vice president of the Young Republicans Club at McIntosh. "It's been what we've been trying to do for a while."

Larson, president of the Young Republicans, also said he didn't consider himself a political pawn. "I never got that impression," he said.

Brown said the students wanted a debate. "You have young Republicans and you have young Democrats — that's about as political as it gets in high school," he said. "They were very excited."
--AJC Article, 12/1/2005
-----------------------------
"No, I first approached the news media (Lee Coleman, John Munford, Cal Beverly, Kevin Duffy) by e-mail and issued a challenge. Next, I called the McIntosh Principal’s office to inquire about the Young Democrats and Young Republicans sponsoring the debate. The Principal’s assistant contacted the faculty sponsors of the clubs and that is how it was handled. Yes, one of the Young Republicans was a student intern at City Hall – I also spoke to all the Young Republicans previously – I also spoke to half the senior government classes – I also know some of their parents – I do not get the “conflict” concept..."
--Response to online question by Mayor Steve Brown, 12/2/2005

I guess the two can be mutually exclusive, but does it smell like it? Only you can be the judge.

And why did the mayor reserve the room? Couldn't the "faculty advisors" have done that? I don't know, but sometimes the appearance of impropriety is more important than the act itself.

Just my opinion, and yet another reason I'll be choosing LOGSDON on DECEMBER 6.

I checked with the Fayette Couuny Republican Party and was told they have no Young Republican Club that is recognized at McIntosh. In fact, Young Republicans are ages 18-40 and if a group is chartered at a high school they are in fact Teenage Republicans not Young Republicans. Anyway, no such group is properly recognized the by the Republican party. Another of Steve Brown delusions?

My son belonged when he went to McIntosh.

From the McIntosh School site.

http://www.mhs-chiefs.org/

Young Democrats Sharon Kling Room 214 1st & 3rd Tuesdays, 3:30 p.m.
Young Republicans Joseph Jarrell Room 219 Alternate Thursdays, 8:00 a.m.

Meaning the club has been there for many years. Whether officially recognized by the Republican Party or not.
