Kids pulled from filthy home

Two north Fayette residents were arrested Sunday for allowing three children to live in an unsanitary environment in which they were malnourished, according to arrest warrants filed by a Fayette County sheriff’s deputy.

Erick Hernandez Martinez, 31, and Ysenia Rios, 31, both of 103 Olympic Court, Fayetteville, were charged with one felony count of cruelty to children and one misdemeanor count of maintaining a disorderly house.

The trailer the kids lived in in the Four Seasons Mobile Home Community did not appear to have a working bathroom, and a hole in the floor of the hallway was filled with trash, according to the deputy’s incident report filed in conjunction with the case.

There was relatively little food in the home’s pantry and refrigerator, but the deputy noted in his report that Rios told him that’s because she bought food each day to prepare for meals.

The deputy also noted there were pillows and blankets on the floor of the living room because that’s where the children slept at night. One of the trailer’s bedrooms was full of items and obviously was not utilized as a sleeping area, the report indicated.

A toilet at the front of the house was inoperable and the second was flushed by using a plunger, the deputy discovered. The deputy spotted fecal material in the second toilet, according to the report.

There was no running hot water to the residence either, according to the officer’s report.

The three children were taken into protective custody by the Fayette County Department of Family and Children Services, confirmed sheriff’s spokesperson Belinda McCastle. McCastle described the conditions in the trailer as “unlivable.”

Yes, the question needs to asked indeed. Illegal or legal ? Yes, they committed a felony and placed their kids in harms way. Sounds to like the county did the right thing. I do wonder how long this family was living in such conditions before someone did something?

Most mobile home park managers don't give crap about what goes on, as long the rent is paid in time. I know, living in a community run by ARC, they could careless about what goes on, but if you're lates with the rent, they damn sure will be at your door step looking for funds!

I applaud the counties action. I do wonder how many other families out there need to be looked at as well.

Now if the county would enforce the laws surrounding Illegals operating motor vehicles in our county, perhaps they can save a life. the laws don't apply to those who are illegal, post bond and right back to work doing as they did before.

This story has been corrected. It was brought to my attention that the address where the incident happened is in the Four Seasons community and NOT in the Landmark community.

Legal or illegal residents?

What difference doest it make? I am undocumented (which is different than illegal, as no human being is illegal) and have a big nice house in PTC. I will be helping this family as soon as I found how. Would you make providing help to the poor and needy contingent with having a visa?

It makes all the difference. If you are undocumented, are you saying you are here illegally? This country is a country of laws. But since you are undocumented, I guess only the laws you agree with are the ones you abide by. Are you proud of knowing you are a criminal?

Providing help to the poor and needy is not and should not be based on a visa. Being employeed, a student or guest is based on a visa. If you don't like our system of laws, Delta is ready when you are.
