More office space headed to TyroneMon, 04/23/2007 - 8:53am

Residents whizzing by on Ga. Highway 74 in Tyrone may soon see a new office building/ The Tyrone Town Council Thursday night approved a request by Abundant Life Church of God to have a five-acre tract adjacent to the church rezoned OI Office/Institutional. Representing the church, Michael Faulkner said the rezoning would provide a way for the church to protect its existing five-acre property on Ga. Highway 74. Faulkner said much of the adjacent property is currently zoned commercial. The Planning Commission had approved the request last month and said that trees present in the 60-foot buffer should be kept in place. “What do you plan on putting there?” asked Councilman Paul Letourneau. Faulkner said he was just representing the church and did not know of what type of office space the church planned on building. He also agreed to conditions stipulating that shared parking and driveways with the church would be the optimum for the development. In other news, the Town Council approved an updated golf cart ordinance that would prevent residents paying two registration fees. Currently, if Tyrone or Peachtree residents drive into the neighboring jurisdiction, two fees would have to be paid. “A resident would have to pay $60 to Tyrone and $60 to Peachtree City,” explained Town Manager Barry Amos. The new ordinance will eliminate the dual registration, and Amos said the town is working with the other jurisdictions to provide a central records center for all golf cart registrations. “We think the 911 center is the logical location,” he said. login to post comments |
