Treatment plant on Peachtree City’s border gets OKThu, 04/19/2007 - 5:43pm

Nearly 41 acres on Fischer Road will soon be the home of a decentralized wastewater treatment facility. The land is next to Wynns Pond and Peachtree City and will use to treat sewerage from a commercial development across Ga. Highway 34. The area has already been the source of controversy when earlier this year a master plan was unveiled that showed commercial development on three corners of the Fischer Road and Ga. Highway 34 intersection. Because the amount of commercial space was so large, it would be subject to a Development of Regional Impact since Fischers Crossing Development Group owns all four corners and released the master plan. But later, developer Scott Seymour sent an affidavit to Coweta County s saying there was no master plan and the parcel under consideration t would only be used for the treatment plan and detention ponds. The Coweta County Commission agreed to rezone the property from Rural Reserve to C-7 Commercial Shopping District with Special Use permit after attaching 11 conditions to the proposal. The conditions included: • Allowing utilities for sewer connection under Wynns Pond Road with the reestablishment of a buffer area. • Stipulating that any property not used by Newnan Utilities for wastewater treatment would revert back to a Rural Reserve or Rural Conservation zoning classification. • Planting a 100-ft. buffer maintained along both sides of Wynns Pond Road. • Meeting Department of Community Affairs guidelines if a Development of Regional Impact is deemed necessary. login to post comments |
