Venice out as county administrator

The Fayette County Commission Wednesday afternoon unanimously voted to ask County Administrator Chris Venice to resign.
The vote came after the county met in executive session and Public Sevices Director Jack Krakeel was asked to act as interim county administrator until a permanent replacement can be found. Commission Chairman Jack Smith said the county was fortunate to have had Venice as administrator, but the board was convinced the change in leadership would be the best for Fayette County.

Apparently no one noticed that Ms. Venice was a Zoning Administrator AFTER she was Director of Planning & Zoning. I suspect that our current Comission Chair was at the Chamber executive board meeting when Billy Beckett announced her demotion. I am told that there was a healthy round of applause at the news. The real question is why Dunn & company took a known problem and made her the County Manager.

If Krakeel is doing this job, who is doing his? Is he receiving double pay? Will one of his underlings take over his place? If the county wants new leadership, bring in fresh blood. If Krakeel does take Chris' place, bring in fresh blood for Krakeel's old job. Lord knows the county doesn't need one of the chiefs under Krakeel taking over. What departments is Krakeel over now, besides fire? Who's taking over Hearn's job?

Lee Hearn is one of the best things that ever happened to Fayette County government. When I have brought road situations to his attention he has been courteous and concerned. He has taken action promptly. For example, the intersection at Goza and Old Greenville Roads was a hazard for our teen's driving to Whitewater High School. Mr Hearn's department took measures to correct the problem by making this intersection safer thereby relieving parent's worried minds concerning our teen's safety.
If Fayette County loses anyone I hope it is not Mr. Hearn, or I may have to move to Henry County.

The intersection of Goza/Old Greenville used to be really bad. If Mr. Hearn was the force behind the improvements made there, then he is a "good guy" in my book.

What a mixed bag. Hearn is rude, crude, and socially unacceptable. He was a poor, poor representative of the county. I really think that is a good thing. Chris Venice is quite another situation. She is brighter and nicer than most folks in our county government. She will be a real loss. Let them fire you; take their money and run.

She'll let them fire her because her contract includes a clause for substantial severance pay which they discussed in an open meeting. And just remember, folks, the commissioners knew when they chose to seek her resignation that it could cost the taxpayers a bunch of money. So, don't lay the blame on her and don't buy any hogwash about the commissioners didn't know it would cost so much and that they're so terribly sorry. That would be a bald-faced lie.

And what about the Open Meetings Act??? Uh, it's been a while since I've read it closely but they must have given notice of a special session and announced their actions from executive session in public, on the record. This smacks of small-town backroom dealing.

Let the investigations begin.

From what Fayette County employees are saying, the County will save much more money with her gone than keeping her here.

How did it cost more money to have her here? How will the taxpayers benefit from having her gone?

Jack Krakeel is a really nice fella but tell me how his leadership of 700+ employees and administration of the county budget is going to be an improvement. I got the impression his expertise was emergency management, which is very different from day-to-day management. Honestly, enquiring minds wanna know.

I wonder if Lee Hearn's resignation has anything to do with the Commission asking for Venice's resignation? Hopefully the open Public Works Director position might not have to be posted after all. I hope this smart action by the commission will change his mind. We would not want to loose a top notch Public Works Director like Lee Hearn. What goes around - comes around.

First of all, Lee Hearn is and was, one of the real class acts left in Fayette County government. His departure comes after months of hen pecking from Dunn "yes chick" Chris Venice. Anyone in the Fayette government system knows how debilitating Venice was on the County and its employees. This county will be well served by her departure. Hey Commissioners, thanx for getting one right, now see if you can get Hearn to resend his resignation and lets get this County headed back in the right direction.......

Two good people who know this county well - I can't help feeling there is something ominous about their leaving. Particularly re: Venice as County Administrator, I don't know how the county can do any better. What is going on?

The Commissioners have taken steps to have Parks cut, Administrators fired and yet Kingpin McNally is still employed to the tune of hundreds of thousands a year ? Looks like Eric Maxwell changed his mind and decided to kneel and kiss the ring.

People get fired every day except in local government, where one can't hardly get rid of someone. Does sound funny. Will they get paid for life? Or sue for millions?

resigned, why in hell would anyone be entitled to money from a suit after resigning??

C'mon, get real, read and think.

Venice will probably get the year's pay Dunn, Wells an Pfeifer promised her.

What qualifed Chris Venice to manage 18 departments of some 700 plus employees when her heaviest experience was managing a department of 5 clerks???????
