Show Our Troops the Money

An editorial by Gary Kurpius and Paul Morin as it appeared in the national press.

WASHINGTON, April 12, 2007 -- Everyone wants the war to end, but how it ends is important. So, with all due respect to the narrow majority in the new Congress who voted to withdraw the bulk of our 140,000 troops from Iraq next year, you are wrong.

Count down till basmati attacks their patriotism, 3,2,1....

I have lost a lot of respect for all officers in the army recently. They allow a rogue President to destroy us, and then allow idiots at Walter Reed, the VA, and the Pentagon to mistreat our seriously wounded by paperwork torture and physical torture.
Patton would have shot 10-15 officers in charge by now and went down shooting. He didn't give a darn about his "career."

One wonders exactly where those brave outspoken veterans were when troops were lying in their own filth and urine at Walter Reed hospital.

The issues at Walter Reed Hospital had nothing to do with our heroes lying in there own filth and urine. That was a shameless and misleading statement.

Dollar is right....This would have never happened under Patton, Marshall or Ike. What is wrong with our leaders.

That these gentleman allow themselves to be used as a backdrop for partisan political message after partisan political message is why I am not a member. The advice they have espoused and supported has led us to the edge of a cliff. That they did not blast the administration with a double barrel over turning blind eyes to Walter Reed, training shortfalls, training and armor/armored vehicle absences, and 15 month combat tours is amazing. No, I don't consider their message to be very credible these days. They are as credible as Mr. Cheney with respect to Iraq policy.

Sorry pal, what gives you the right to question the motives and Patriotism of this group. Did you read the entire article. They take the President to task on errors, but on the fundamental issue, of tomelines they speak their conscience!

Attacking their credibility is way beneath you my friend.

My belief is they put support of party way to high on the priority list. I would never stand behind a political message while wearing a uniform; ever! I believe that is terribly wrong. They are a backdrop for barbs thrown at "liberals," democrats, the liberal media, etc. And funny thing is, the "liberal bleeding heart media" are the ONLY reason you and I even know that our brothers were not treated honorably at walter Reed. The VFW did not bring that story to light after many visits to Walter Reed; the liberal media did. Army, I stand by all which I have written, and in two years, we can come back and see how "stay the course" advice worked out.

The problems at Walter Reed are disgraceful; however, I have been told that none of the problems are service related- they are facility issues.

They have not had complaints about services, at least anymore so than any other comparable 'civilian' hospital.

Some of the facilities on the other hand were disgraceful.

Feel free to double check my information.

I just take issue with a comment like Basmati just made. As for me I say we throw massive funding at our troops to give them the support we need. Let's put the squeeze on pork spending and fund our military properly.

Fund the troops properly, put the squeeze on pork spending (like bridges to nowhere) AND terminate and audit every single Iraq contract . . . especially the Haliburton ones (before they can flee the country and hide their assets).
