That poor soul has to advocate for his client while his client undermines his own case with crap like this. But, let's turn to the point (such as it is) of this blog.

Rahim is a victim of the system? Lemme guess . . . young black men are the most frequent target of The System and are most likely to do hard time for the same behavior that white people serve no jail time at all. Is that the jailhouse whine? Alright, for the sake of argument, let's take that as true.

Let's assume that young black males are targets for police action, get arrested more often and do more time in jail than white people. You believe that isn't fair and, assuming it's true, you're right; it isn't fair. The judge has to be impartial, the jury has to deliberate only on the evidence presented in court and the prosecutor can't do anything illegal but, other than that, the system really isn't fair.

But who said life was fair?

There is an old African proverb that says, "You are the slave of the one whose handcuffs you put on." Simply put: if you do the crime, you have put yourself at the mercy of the justice system. And, if you know that system has no mercy for people like you then, don't whine about how unfair it is when you put yourself in that situation.

If Rahim lived a clean life, went to school, studied hard, associated with people who live a clean life and was a good neighbor, he wouldn't have been in the position he's in. But since he chose to glorify the thug lifestyle, he gets to experience the underbelly of the thug lifestyle. Not cool . . . just a fool.

If you and I are always in agreement, one of us is likely armed and dangerous.

You pulled that out of the Bible somewhere didn't you? Great post SWMBO. Those are the lessons we are failing to teach our young people these days. The examples you brought to us today are colorless and should "go without saying". I guess nobody says these things anymore. Rahim's mother obviously didn't.

(Been meaning to give you a shout out for a while, bud.) The proverb is actually from the Adinkra language spoken in Ghana (west Africa).

You know, the saddest part about Rahim's mother is that she is actually proud that her son is going to be a rapper. WTH??! I can't help but wonder if she ever actually listened to the lyrics in popular rap music or looked at the kind of violent trouble that seems to follow a career in rap.

What kind of vision does a mother have when that is what she wants her son to apire to? And what about his father? Let's not let him off the hook too easily. Where is his father to take him out behind the wood shed for some "corrective action?" They should take a moment to assess their own contributions to this mess. I hope they will but, somehow, I doubt it.

will any Mother give up on her son? Especially when she didn't have the wherewithall to get him out of such a neighborhood.

Submitted by swmbo on Sun, 04/15/2007 - 11:03pm.

You know, the North-Fayette-is-a-ghetto trap. One of my church members lives in that neighborhood (and knows quite a bit about Fool Rahim) and, generally, it seems like an okay place. Not fabulous but I'm not afraid to visit my friend at night.

His mother doesn't have to give up on him. But if she and his friends keep putting stuff like this on the blogs and he'll wish she had given up. It sure doesn't help his case -- especially the picture.

Please, tell your acquaintance that that is why God made weights, Hapkido, Bushido, and TaeKwon-do.

Of course, I admit that at my age, I like having my **S&W .40 Cal. semi-automatic (with an expanded clip capacity - allegedly) for back up. Eye-wink

I would recommend having some nice S&W nickel handcuffs, 10% pepper spray and/or a stun gun (350Kv or more) at the very least at home and/or in your car.

I also suggest you have some **knives and/or throwing stars as well (shurikens) if you know how to use them.

(** Know how to use them, otherwise you are asking for a big problem.)

With garbage like Rahim and his 'cheap cigar express' around, (by the way Rahim, buy some real cigars for crying out loud - I suggest a Hoyo de Monterrey, maybe in a 50 ring gauge, a torpedo would be nice with a Connecticut shade wrapper - but I digress)you need self protection until help arrives.

Anyway, I like to be prepared. You should be prepared too.

Well, it looks like this mommy is stickin' by her "boy"... He's been in "da system" before and is no stranger to the Fayette "Hotel". She doesn't understand why "da system" is pickin' on her "boy" and now she's REALLY mad! (at "da system") It doesn't matter that he's accused of shooting a girl, in mamma's eyes he didn't do it.. according to her it's all "da system's" fault because "da system" has been tryin' to "git her son for years". You can call the above number and talk to her yourself about "da system" and her "boy". Or you can go to the candle light vigil in person to hear all the things wrong with "da system"... Yes, that's what we should all do tonight... go and listen to another "victim" of "da system" and how they are being mistreated. It doesn't matter that her "boy" (pictured above wearing a bullet proof vest holding a shotgun) portrays himself as a gangbanger/thug/wannabe pimp, in her eyes he's her baby. The problem started with the MOM and overflowed to her son. It's time to take responsibility for your own actions Ms. Grant! Admit that you did a POOR job of raising your son and stop blaming "da system"!

Whether it's the Mob, KKK, the James Gang, or whatever group of thugs over the last few centuries we need to be prepared to resist these pieces of human debris.

You have got to be kidding. I know, lets march on McDonalds because they put too much ice in their drinks. And why is ice white anyway? Or, how about Dalmations. Or those dogs white with black spots? Or vice versa? Say it right now...
If your going to pick a hero or cause to champion, you might want to do a little research. Its, probably not a good idea to have your idol sitting in a picture, holding what appears to be a shotgun and dressed like a thug! Just a suggestion.
Here is some more food for thought: why aren't you marching on Clayton County's Jail? I bet you didn't know that when King Hill walks by a prisoner, they have to face the wall. No, I don't just mean the prisoners sitting out in the hall. I mean the ones inside the cells too. Guess what, if they DON'T face the wall, then they go to the hole as punishment! Thats not a safety issue, thats an EGO issue.
Oh yeah, he's a black sheriff. We won't say anything about that. If you don't believe me, just ask anyone who has stayed at Camp Clayton or any prisoners in there now.
Obviously, what you don't know, is that EVERYONE would rather come to the Fayette County jail then any other jail in the area. WHY? Because Randall treats the prisoners like people.
So, the next time you decide to grab YOUR CANDLE and head out on a JUST CAUSE, remember, JUST CAUSE its a white Sheriff doesn't mean he violated your rights or that the WHITE DEVIL is coming down on you.

Stick them in tents outside....if some of them die.....oh well....we can't all live to be 100 can we?? The sheriff in AZ never spends more than 40cents a day to feed each prisoner....it's white bread and baloney...no mayo..... That sheriff brags repeatedly about how he spends more to feed the K-9 dogs than he does the prisoners....

I must disagree with Skyspy’s criticism of our Sheriff.….Randall Johnson has treated prisoners decently and in so doing he has complied with the 8th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I don’t fault you, Skyspy, but let me try to persuade you that he is not the bad guy here. Joe Arpaio is Spartan but he does not torture prisoners. Arpaio is a marketing genius but not a torturer. He gives the prisoners pink underwear, etc. College drop-out Congressman like Wastemoron pander to the crowds by saying “I voted for torture” but that is very clearly against our Constitution and our way of life in America. We lock them up and give people like Cool Rahim three hots and a cot not for THEIR benefit but for OURS, and the benefit of our families. And what happens if we mistreat prisoners? We will most definitely get a federal lawsuit. No, I disagree. Randall has done his job right. The problem has been at the courthouse. It used to be in Fayette that the prisoners would say “In Fayette, they treat you good in the jailhouse and bad in the courthouse.” Not anymore. Now we see probation coming out the, well, uh, court calendars, and we even have a DA that will testify for the poor accused Fayette child molester/ campaign contributor/ former client after he gets elected to serve us. The problem ain’t with Randall.

I guess this is the sheriff that you're referring to. Smiling

You probably know him as “America’s Toughest Sheriff,” a name he certainly has earned as head of the nation’s third largest Sheriff’s Office which employs over 3000 people.

Sheriff of Maricopa County (AZ) Joe Arpaio has over 10,000 inmates in his jail system. In August, 1993, he started the nation’s largest Tent City for convicted inmates. [Tours can be scheduled. Dress standards apply. (Business casual is appropriate.)] Of equal success and notoriety are his chain gangs, which contribute thousands of dollars of free labor to the community. The male chain Amegang, and the world’s first-ever female and juvenile chain gangs, clean streets, paint over graffiti, and bury the indigent in the county cemetery.

Also impressive are the Sheriff’s gettough policies. For example, he banned smoking, coffee, movies, pornographic magazines, and unrestricted TV in all jails. He has the cheapest meals in the U.S., too. The average meal costs about 15 cents, and inmates are fed only twice daily, to cut the labor costs of meal delivery. He even stopped serving them salt and pepper to save tax payers $20,000 a year.

Another program Arpaio is very wellknown for is the pink under shorts he makes all inmates wear. Years ago, when the Sheriff learned that inmates were stealing jailhouse white boxers, Arpaio had all inmate underwear dyed pink for better inventory control. The same is true for the Sheriff’s handcuffs. When they started disappearing, he ordered pink handcuffs as a replacement. And later, when the Sheriff learned the calming, psychological effects of the color pink—sheets, towels, socks— everything inmates wear, except for the old-fashioned black and white striped uniform, were dyed pink.

Arpaio has started another controversial program, the website WWW.MCSO.org, so that all those arrested (about 300 per day) are recorded on the Sheriff’s website as they are booked and processed into jail. Just under a million hits daily come into the website, making it one of the most visible law enforcement sites on the World Wide Web.

=================
He also has an online Deadbeat Parents' Hall of Shame and In the Line of Duty (Maricopa County Sheriff's Officers who died in the line of duty.

=================
Sheriff Joe Arpaio's no-kill animal shelter, MASH, was created to house and care for animals that have been abused or neglected by their caretakers and rescued by the Animal Cruelty Investigative Unit. The purpose of the shelter is to provide a safe, healthy and healing shelter for these tragic animals, who must necessarily await the outcome of their owners' cruelty cases in court. Hopefully, their ultimate outcome will be adoption into loving, permanent homes.

How many people would want to get arressted in Fayette County if our jail was run this way???

Exactly the point that Sheriff Arpaio has proven Smiling

Many civil libertarians denounce him for his willingness to ignore constitutional rights in favor of blind enforcement.

Typical criticism!

Arpaio believes that inmates should not be treated better than the average citizen.

Arpaio banned smoking in the county jail. He also removed pornographic magazines (the ban was later upheld in court) and weightlifting equipment. Entertainment was limited to only G-rated movies; the cable TV system (mandated by court order) was severely blocked by Arpaio to limit viewing to those stations Arpaio deems to be "educational", mainly Animal Planet, Disney Channel, The Weather Channel, Food Network, and the local government access channel.

In October 2005, Arpaio started mandatory 2-week English classes for non-English-speaking inmates at his jails. Classes last 2 hours a day. The curriculum comprises the three branches of government, how a bill becomes law, state government, law enforcement and court services, and jailhouse "situational" terminology. At the end of the 2-week course, inmates are required to take a test to see how well they have learned about American government, the words to God Bless America, and the communication of health and safety needs.

In response to critics, Arpaio responsed, "These inmates happen to be incarcerated in the United States of America and in Maricopa County where I run the jails, we speak English here, not foreign languages."

In February 2007, Arpaio instituted an in-house radio station, KJOE, which broadcasts classical music, opera, Frank Sinatra hits, obscenity-free patriotic music, and educational programming, from the basement of the county jail.

Shortly after taking office, Arpaio reinstituted chain gangs, the controversial form of inmate labor which had been virtually eliminated in the United States. Arpaio believes that chain gangs are not a form of punishment, but instead of rehabilitation.

Illegal immigrants

In 2005, Arizona passed a law making it a felony, punishable by up to 2 years in jail, to smuggle someone across the border. Maricopa County Attorney Andrew P. Thomas has issued a legal opinion that those being smuggled can be considered co-conspirators to the smuggling and thusly can be charged under the same law.

Under this opinion, Arpaio has instructed his deputies and members of his civilian posse to round up and arrest suspected illegal aliens. Arpaio said to Fox News, "My message is clear: If you come here and I catch you, you're going straight to jail. [...] I'm not going to turn these people over to federal authorities so they can have a free ride back to Mexico. I'll give them a free ride to my jail."

And you expect to be taken seriously. I looked at the pictures you have on your web page. The marijuana buds in picture #2 are of particular interest.

It's true that some of those found guilty of a crime have been truly innocent. However, this is not the fault of "experienced" government lawyers or white jurors. Many of the jurys in this county are a diverse crowd. And why should we attack educated people who are doing their job with the information they are given. Some lawyers are corrupt, but very few. DA Scott Ballard has done a good job as our District Attorney. Our society has gotten too out of hand with suing. I sincerely hope that your lawsuit falls through in the system that you say has wronged many people.

I have to agree. BUT there are people behind bars that are innocent. Not many but some. And you do not have to be BLACK to be wrongly accused and sentenced. Believe it or not but it does happen to Indians, Whites, Asians etc. So grow up BLACKS it's not just you. We just don't broadcast it.....................
