Mixed results for local teams in Tuesday night’s action

Tuesday night was a big night for basketball as all of the local teams were playing. There were a lot of close games and several of the locals came out on top.

Starr’s Mill’s boys and girls split with Meadowcreek. The boys lost 68-66 with Medowcreek’s Chris Allen, a highly recruited basketball player, hitting the winning basket with 1.8 seconds left on the clock. The Panthers’ Mark Harris scored 20 points and had six rebounds, while Spencer Shelton added 13 points and 10 rebounds. Bo Tiller added 12 points and eight rebounds and Joey Lewis scored nine points and pulled in 10 rebounds. The Lady Panthers won 39-22 and were led by Alexis Shaffer’s 10 points.

McIntosh traveled to Sharpsburg to take on East Coweta and both the boys and girls lost. The Chiefs fell to the Indians 66-61 with East Coweta’s Antonio Gates and Kendrick Hugley-Brown leading the team in scoring. The game saw several lead changes between the two teams The Lady Chiefs lost 41-38. The Lady Indians were led by Vanessa Colton’s 13 points, while Shasta Ellison added 12 points and Kevi Martin pulled in 11 rebounds. Elyse Chubb scored 15 points for McIntosh and Alex Smith and Erin Justice each hit big shots for the Lady Chiefs in the ball game.

Our Lady of Mercy’s boys and girls swept Mt. Paran. The boys won 53-50 and one of the highlights had to be Jake Lethbridge’s 3/4 court basket at the buzzer signaling halftime. The Lady Bobcats won 42-17 with Raven Moore scoring 12 points.

Landmark Christian School got swept by Alexander. The War Eagles lost 50-35 while the Lady War Eagles fell 46-45.

Whitewater’s boys and girls swept Dutchtown. The boys won 71-67 in overtime to stay perect this season and improve their record to 5-0, while the girls won 65-63. Jay Bright led the boys with 25 points and Zach Scurry chipped in 20 points, while Jackie Gittens led the girls with 18 points.

Northgate took on Newnan on Tuesday night. The Lady Vikings lost 61-48 with Carly Wynn and Mary Milton leading the team in scoring and Sarah Spiller hitting some big three-pointers. The boys lost 66-51 and trailed Newnan 18-4 in the second quarter. Though they played better in the second half, the Vikings couldn’t close the gap enough. Cory Kirkland had 10 points for Northgate.

I would like to see a story on Our Lady of Mercy's Bball program! I am an out of state reader and very interested in the local high school basketball there.
