A well-deserved thanks

Tyrone’s new library should be completed by the end of this year.

Thats’ the word after the Town Council unanimously approved a $1.3 million construction bid by Headley Construction of Newnan to build the structure.

The new library will go at the end of Commerce Drive and provide much-needed space for the library that has been housed in the back of town hall for many years.

Town manager Barry Amos explained the bid could also be lowered by $7,000 if the town allowed the construction company to temporarily store the construction debris at Shamrock Park while the library is under construction.

Headley has also pledged to smooth out the surface at Shamrock Park and re-seed the area.

“We would finally have a uniform surface at Shamrock Park,” Amos added.

He said none of the dirt would go into the lake and the playground and walking trails would still be open for use. He estimates the library construction time frame at 210 days.

The measure passed unanimously, but Councilwoman Grace Caldwell wanted to make sure the town monitors the project and keep an eye on Shamrock Park.

“We’ll be out there every day,” Amos assured her.
