3-28-07 Crash at 74 and Aberdeen Pkwy

Two men have died from injuries they received in a violent car crash in Peachtree City six days earlier.

Leonard “Lennie” Dunn of Fayetteville was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon, and John Minaberry of Fayetteville died Wednesday morning according to family members.

Seconds before last Wednesday’s crash, Dunn was driving his older model Porsche Targa convertible north on Ga. Highway 74 with Minaberry in the front passenger seat. Immediately before the crash, a southbound car on Hwy. 74 turned left onto Aberdeen Parkway, pulling into the path of Dunn’s vehicle and causing the crash, police said.

The front of Dunn’s vehicle was crushed such that the dashboard collapsed in towards Dunn and Minaberry.

The crash also seriously injured the driver of the other car, Melissa Painter of Fayetteville. All three victims were flown in three separate medical helicopters to hospitals for treatment.

Officials said this is the first crash in Peachtree City where three separate helicopters were needed to transport victims.

A memorial service for Minaberry will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church on Ga. Highway 314 in Fayetteville.

Dunn’s funeral service will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at J.F. Floyd Mortuary at 235 North Church Street in Spartanburg, S.C.; a viewing will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

For Dunn's friends who can't make the funeral, a memorial service will be held Saturday, April 14 in Fayetteville at 2 p.m., also at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Fayetteville.

Its times like these that we all need to draw on the peace, love and the grace of the Almighty. Through all the anger and tears is the true love of God and that family we all share. I would like to share a site In loving memory of Lennie in a happy moment caught in the rapture of a loving embrace. My deepest sympathy to John Minaberry and all of his family and friends... Rest in the certain knowledge that John and Lennie enjoy the eternal loving embrace of God's sweetest Angels... Forever in faith, hope and love.

To keep from repeating myself, I just want to say again how much Lennie meant to my family. To say that Lennie was a mentor as well as an inspiration to our son ( Dustin ) would not come close to what this man meant to our family. It is also ironic that two years to the date that Lennie will have his funeral, he was a pallbearer at Dustin's funeral. For months after, he would stop by and we would sit in his van and talk for hours about Dustin and his brother that he had just lost. Hang in there Lucky7Star and help all in your family to get through this.

Thanks Barry for the sincere thoughts of kindness for Lennie and our family here. Suzanne had nothing but sweet things to say about your son Dustin. Strange that instead of a funeral memorial I would be with a friend helping to bring a new baby into the world on the same day Lennie was put to rest. I also read your kind thoughts for Suzanne in the private comment section of Lennie's memorial site. All those comments and expressions support are welcomed particularly those with stories about Lennie that show a true measure of his love, support, and trust from those who knew him best. In addition I placed a public link to a blog selection for those who wish to share stories or comments, a kind net of support for the friends of Lennie. Something more than just an address book... Its Lennie's story.

Lennie was like a trusty heartbeat that we sometimes just take for granted... Sure miss that special beat when its gone. Best to take care of all our hearts.
Thanks again,
Friends of Lennie & Suzanne's family
Spartanburg, SC
