74/Aberdeen accident complaints miss the pointFirst, I hope the best for the injured, and their family and friends. In reading the posted comments, it seems there's a consensus that a traffic light will magically remove the danger associated with that intersection. The solution is not with the physical structure of the roadway, but with the drivers that use it. IF CITIZENS WANT SAFER ROADS: Demand elected officials (Mayors,Sheriffs, etc.) implement the tactic of actually monitoring traffic violations BEFORE accidents occur and people are injured/killed. Things happen when they are attached to votes. Safe driving is a result of safe driving habits, not of failing to make one proper decision in a single given instance. People who drive unsafely and aggressively(especially) need to be stopped, cited, and if necessary, have their licenses suspended, again, BEFORE THEY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. When is the last time you heard of someone ticketed for following too closely, or for an improper lane change, or for running a stop light, and it wasn't simply a means of assigning fault in the aftermath of an accident? Doesn't happen. Citizens need to step it up by slowing down, backing off, and showing more regard for existing traffic laws. Local officials and law enforcement need to step it up by making a priority of unsafe drivers, rather than waiting until after the damage is done and simply acting as historians recording events. I know, officers don't have the time to deal with petty traffic WHEN WILL WE FOCUS ON THE CAUSE, AND NOT THE SYMPTOM? In the meantime, try to remember that riding my bumper won't make the car in front of me go any faster, so back-off!! MoreCowbell's blog | login to post comments |
