Stop the big box development now

When they came for the communists, I remained silent; I was not a communist.

When they locked up the Jews, I remained silent; I was not a Jew.

When they came for the trade unionists, I did not speak out; I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for me, there was no one left to speak out. — (Origin is unclear. Various versions have been attributed to several authors.)

The developers have used a divide and conquer strategy in Peachtree City to achieve their goal of turning our fair city into a giant shopping center.

When the Wal-Mart/Home Depot complex was proposed, west side residents fought it. For everyone else, ho hum.

When the Kedron expansion was proposed, north side residents were up in arms. For everyone else, ho hum.

Now, another big box is proposed on industrial zoned property in the south and the residents across the street are concerned. For everyone else, it’s what development?

Our citizens need to wake up and realize that if they don’t collectively fight development anywhere in the city that they would fight if it were proposed for their neighborhood, eventually they will get that unwanted development in every neighborhood.

If you don’t want a big box store on the east side or or at Hwy. 54 and Peachtree Parkway, or any other place where there isn’t one now, then you need to let your city council know that you don’t want one on the south side or another one on the west side.

Stop this development now, before our city becomes unrecognizable.

Gosh Darn It.
I wish those people that started Peachtree City Development Corporation had never gotten their money together and bought all the farm and swamp land in west Fayette County back in 1971. We had a nice little moonshine operation going until the surveyors found moonstill number 5 up Spear Creek Road. That thing was producing upwards of 500 gallons a day until the revenuers busted it up. If it hadn't been for them, Spear Road would still be in the family. We had to sell the property to pay the judges off so they wouldn't send brother up the creek. And what about the old ground hog operation over at Bralin Pond? Lost another 250 still there. We had a nice place to live and earn our income. Now it is full of those self righteous, self indulgent, self absorbed, selfish, Nimb rods, (not in my backyard) whining, moaning, groaning, complaining about how traffic around big box development will destroy their quality of life. They want to see the kind of stores this development will bring to be located in some place like Union City. Then they will complain about how far they have to drive to go shopping. Then complain about high gas prices. Then complain about how cars are destroying the environment. Then complain about how the environment around their homes is being threaten by crime. Then we NoFF's, natives of Fayette Families, can stop complaining about all them people that moved in back in 1971.
Did the Amy Nyman's of Peachtree City think that the place was established by the Indian's and only recently suddenly grew to the size that it is. Good God people. That is the way white people work. Find something they like. They tell all their friends. Everyone wants to move in. Then they all complain about the traffic and how they can't get a table at Outback.

Today, conservative American's tell liberal American's that complain about how the country is going down hill, if you don't like it here then move. And as a NoFF since 1832, I will tell you all, if you don't like it here, then move.

Revulsion describes how I feel after reading someone correlate the apathy shown by German citizens during the Jewish Holocaust (i.e. slaughter of humans) with the apathy shown by some taxpayers over the development of Peachtree City. I understand feelings are running high on this issue, but this crosses the line.

I did not understand the Holocaust metaphor, simile, allegory, whatever he was trying to make. How does one compare German citizen's apathy in the Final Solution, to tax payers apathy about a shopping mall? German's knew killing people was wrong, but killing Jews was acceptable. Peachtree City voters think development in their neighborhood is wrong, but development in someone else's neighborhood is acceptable. That is messed up. FUBAR.
