Developing big boxes would be an “insult”

As lifetime residents of New York state, our move to Peachtree City — one of Money Magazines and CNN’s top ranking places to live — was not job-related or out of necessity, but that of choice.

With one daughter entering college and another beginning kindergarten, our focus was on education, safety and the community. We weren’t looking to move short-term; we wanted to find a neighborhood that we would comfortably consider “home” for years to come.

After viewing several properties in Peachtree City, we found the safe, quiet community and beautifully maintained property of Wilshire Estates to be most inviting.

We decided it was well worth the extra investment, and can honestly say over the past seven months life here has truly met all of our expectations.

Our association and community take pride in our clean, maintained properties, the quiet suburban streets where after school lets out becomes full of scooters, laughter and bike-riding. Within the Landings, Enclave and Broadlands, a golf cart ride for pleasure, visiting neighbors or transporting children to and from play dates, is nothing but easy and common in this community.

Until now, since the impending commercial property across from Eckerd and Chick-fil-A. It just doesn’t make sense.

We understand Peachtree City to be a planned community preserving the beauty of its neighborhoods and safety of its residents. Why develop a new road to be purposely hooked into Holly Grove Road, when it is quite obvious the results would be otherwise? Has it occurred to anybody that we are in itself a community?

We pay dues to our neighborhood pool. How do we safely get our children there, or even swim there comfortably? Between the noise, traffic, trash, and subsequent crime which we are being set up for, what’s in it for us?

I understand Rockaway is a dangerous, accident-stricken road. Why totally move the whole road and create another disaster? Wouldn’t traffic out of Meade Park still prove to be backed up and hazardous?

To add additional use for this new road would only cause more congestion and dangers to everyone in this community. To develop this road across from Holly Grove Road would be an insult to us, as homeowners and taxpayers of Peachtree City.

I firmly believe this should be further studied and altered to consider our safe, secure, neighborhood and exactly what it could become.

Gosh Darn It, Mr.D'Amato. Did some one miss inform you?
I wish those five people at Peachtree City Development Corporation had never gotten their money together and bought all the farm and swamp land in west Fayette County back in 1971. We had a nice little moonshine operation going until the surveyors found still number 5 up Spear Creek Road. That thing was producing upwards of 500 gallons a day until the revenuers busted it up. If it hadn't been for them, Spear Road would still be in the family. We had to sell the property to pay the judges off so they wouldn't send brother up the creek. And what about the old ground hog operation over at Bralin Pond? Lost another 250 still there. Now it is full of those self righteous, self indulgent, self absorbed, selfish, NIMRDs, (Not In My backyaRD) whining, moaning, groaning, complaining about how traffic around big box development will destroy their quality of life. They want to see the kind of stores this development will bring to be located in some place like Union City. Then they will complain about how far they have to drive to go shopping. Then complain about high gas prices. Then complain about how cars are destroying the environment. Then complain about how the environment around their homes is being threaten by crime. Then we F.F.F.'s, First Fayette Familes, can stop complaining about all them people that moved in back in 1971.
Did the Caralyns and Ed's of Peachtree City think that the place was established by the Indian's and only recently suddenly grew to the size that it is. Good God people. To say that yesterday this place was paridase, today it's hell? That is the way white people work. Find something they like. They tell all their friends. Everyone wants to move in. Then they all complain about the traffic and how they can't get a table at Outback.
Until 1971, we F.F.F's, if we wanted building supplies, had to go to where the South Atlanta road crosses interstate 285 for a Home Depot. If we F.F.F.'s wanted a decent suit, had to go to Rich's in Atlanta. The only choice in grocery stores in 1971 was Food Giant at what is now Michael's arts and crafts store in Fayetteville. And the only three places to eat out were, McDonalds, Dairy Queen, and Melear's. Personally speaking as a F.F.F., I was glad to see the Big Box. I wasn't happy to see Travis Hardware go under. But if they could not stay open between 6:00 to 9:00, provide a good a selection of supplies, and better service, then they were destined to fail.

Today, conservative American's tell liberal American's that complain about how the country is going down hill, if you don't like it here then move. And as a F.F.F. since 1832, I will tell you all, if you don't like it here, then move.
