Commercial still planned for downtown

After Tyrone’s Town council voted down the latest proposal for downtown development, what’s next?

The Town Council could soon find out, according to town manager Barry Amos.

“It’s my understanding that Burt Clark plans to submit some site plans to the town later this month,” Amos said.

Clark is the developer who unsuccessfully tried to create a high-density, senior community in the heart of Tyrone’s downtown. But during his presentation to the Town Council last week, Clark said he could proceed with development even if the town turned down his plan for the senior community and adjacent office space.

“The majority of it is already zoned commercial, so I can put up metal buildings there,” he said.

Clark was seeking to rezone the commercial part of the property to office, but now may just use the existing zoning to go ahead and develop the property.

Before any of the property is developed, Councilman Grace Caldwell hopes the area is cleaned up. Caldwell said the EPD has been notified about the numerous environmental hazards on the property and wants the town to make sure the area looks better.

The sickening fawning over this past Tyrone planning member has brought Tyrone to were it is now. Your developer friend moved from Tyrone to 15 acres in Brooks and put his house in the middle so he wouldn't be disturbed, while he petals 1/8 acre lots here. You guys make me sick. Do you know a REAL DEVELOPER? I might suggest you look at Steve Macauley... http://www.macauleycompanies.com He is developing LeJardin and then Waterlace, on the other side of Fayette county. Both are VERY high end, and this developer doesn't make statements about metal building when he doesn't get his way. He has won many awards for his conservation type of developement. The funny thing is, to get between LeJardin and Waterlace, he HAD to drive through Tyrone. If you hadn't been chizling us up for the likes of this Delta computer programmer turned developer, maybe Mccawley would have stopped and made a difference! I hope when you roll over this time, you don't try to feed the people of Tyrone that you were afraid he would sue..that just won't work. But thats ok...come Nov...there will be a house cleaning! And to the person on the town council that keeps pushing the 1/4 to 1/8 downtown lots, with live/work shops, YANKEE GET YOUR CARPETBAG AND GO HOME! Go Grace and Gloria...kick butt girls! Hope we have more like you in Nov!

Simply drive down Palmetto Road and you will see three large signs saying commercial lots available. Here again, the cart is way before the horse.

You are right, thank God we have Grace and Gloria who continually protect the citizens interest!!!!

I thought this was an early April Fool's spoof from the Citizen:

" COMMERCIAL STILL PLANNED FOR DOWNTOWN ".

After reading the headline, Burt Clark and Barry Amos have initiated immediate negotiations with Lem Motlow Distillery for a Jack Daniels plant at the Depot. Heck, he can put up a metal building so why not.
