Does the city of Senoia look too cluttered with signs?

That’s one of the issues the City Council will discuss today at an all-day work session at the Freeman Sasser Building in the city’s park. During Tuesday’s Planning Commission meeting, one planning commissioner made his thoughts quite clear on the issue.

“I’d like to see all these signs gone,” said Commissioner Roger Alley. The commissioner said the city is lined with real estate for sale and yard sale signs during the weekend.

“One of the few things that Peachtree City did right was come up with a uniform yard sale sign,” he said.

City administrator Richard Ferry said it was possible to have a uniform sign, but said the city could run into a dangerous area if it tried to eliminate a lot of the signs that are currently displayed.

“When you start trying to curtail free speech, you run into a tricky, legal area,” Ferry said.

Alley said there were plenty of other ways for businesses to advertise, and he was just tired of constantly seeing the city’s ruined by unattractive signs.

Revisiting the sign ordinance is just one of the topics during today’s meeting. The City Council is also going to look at updating several zoning ordinances and also cleaning up the language throughout the city’s code.

The meeting is open to the public.

"The City Council is also going to look at updating several zoning ordinances..."

Good, try closing the loophole that allows for "BIG-BOX" stores in the LUC area.
