Direct PAC not controlled by developers

By: Letters to the ...

I did something recently that I rarely do: I read a Steve Brown letter to the editor. I didn’t really have to read it to know what it said; however, I was told Mr. Brown reached new levels of brazenness, even by his standards. So, curiosity piqued, I opened to A6 and dug in.

The mayor deserves lots of credit for staying on message. His entire public persona has been built around lashing out at people who disagree with him. You’re “beloved” if you agree with Steve, if you view every issue as he does, if you eagerly nod your agreement when he speaks. Dare to disagree and you better watch your backside because the junkyard dog’s been unleashed.

Our mayor is a good politician (even though he hasn’t yet figured out that successful politicians must build coalitions). He can manipulate facts to make anyone but the comatose look bad. He can and does lie with conviction. Seemingly he doesn’t realize he’s lying because he’s convinced that if he believes something, that something is true. Take DIRECT PAC, for instance.

Our organization formed about three years ago when a group of individuals, tired of hearing each other complain about the city’s government, figured we could influence the course of events by organizing a political action committee.

Our first public statement was in favor of the Development Authority’s efforts to fix the problems with the amphitheater and, especially, the tennis center. (Let me point out that, at the time, the Development Authority was chaired by a Brown supporter who Brown appointed.)
Since Brown’s signature issue is his cleansing of the “corrupt” Development Authority, our support immediately marked us as his enemies. Since, to Brown, nothing is more heinous than a developer, Brown decided DIRECT PAC were developers aligned with other developers, all gleefully exploiting the ignorant masses in Peachtree City for personal gain.

Well, fact is, that’s just not true. Let me tell you about this DIRECT PAC “special interest group.” We do have a special interest: better government in Peachtree City.

We don’t buy into Brown’s conspiracy theories, accusations, and inanities. We think he’s full of malarkey.

Who are we? We are employed and self-employed business people, Republicans and Democrats, active and retired military, old and young, civil servants, professionals, educators, even a pilot or two. Some of us work in the real estate business. For others in the group, real estate means the family home.

We are not consumed, as Brown would have you believe, by a desire to bulldoze trees. Indeed, if you reflect for a moment, you realize our organization looks a lot like Peachtree City. You might even conclude, based upon recent election results, that we think a lot like Peachtree City, too.

On Dec. 6, we have the right to vote again. Exercise your right. Even if you didn’t vote in the general election, you may vote in the runoff election. Two very different individuals contend for the final elected position and we get to decide who we think is better suited.

Earlier, DIRECT PAC recommended both Harold Logsdon and Phil Boswell as excellent candidates for mayor. Harold remains in the race and our opinion, formed after meeting with all the newcomers contending for the mayoralty, remains unchanged. We believe Harold Logsdon deserves your vote.

Rex Green
Peachtree City, Ga.

Sure Rex, but do you think anyone believes your company Group 6 isn't going to benefit big time from the annexation Harold supports?

How can Group VI - a commercial building company benefit from annexation? Wieland, Ravin and RAM will benefit - and of course the landowners, but a commercial builder? How? Is there going to be an office park over there?

You might've overlooked the other half of the company: Group IV Real Estate & Development Services.

Actually DirectPac is not controlled by developers. That doesn't preclude a number of professions being represented. But the one constant is that the Pac was formed by a number of people who didn't like what was going on. Brown decided that the Pac was all "developers." He also decided that the 3000 votes for Logsden were all "developers." By the way, Rex Green worked for Photocircuits until they moved. Then he took a job with Group VI.
Oh, and about annexation? It is Brown who has been actively pursuing the annexation. Make NO MISTAKE ABOUT THAT! It was DirectPac that demanded any annexation be done with input from the public, the council, and the staff. Brown was doing it privately and during an annexation moratorium. That is a FACT. If DirectPac was all "pro-annexation developers" why would they bring to light an annexation package? Oh, one other issue. Do you reasonably believe that even as county property that a developer will lose money? So believe what you want. DirectPac is NOT controlled by anyone. Problem is you believe Steve Brown and don't find out for yourself. Not a good idea.

Well, all I have to do is look at who DirectPac is and their history to say I don't want their agenda.

And Logsdon is being backed so vigorously by them for their agenda.

If it comes down to voting for or against DIRECTPAC, Brown is toast. Look at the endorsements of DIRECTPAC and who has won. Stuart TooHardOfANameToPronounceOrSpell, Rutherford, Boone and Logsdon in the first go-around.

Most voters don't seem to feel that DIRECTPAC has some kind of evil agenda and the voters also don't buy into Steve Brown's ridiculous characterizations of DIRECTPAC. Let's face it, Brown has made DIRECTPAC a political force by constantly putting them into the limelight with his shrill and laughably dumb conspiracy theories.

Got news for you. Most people I know detest DirectPac because of who is on it. And I know many.

They see them as in the pocket of developers and with a self serving agenda.

My vote is based on the issues. And the silence from Logsdon is deafening.

And so curious the ONLY firm stand he has taken is the to assume the Tennis Center debt.

Now who in what groups have something to gain from that happening? Hmmmmm.

Ok, put up or shut up. Please can you simply NAME all the "developers" that are in DirectPac? And don't simply say Rex Green because he works for Group VI. I want to know about ALL those other "developers." You spout off over and over again the same tired accusations. I know for a fact they are blatantly false. You, Brown, and Cal all say the same thing trying to convince the people you know who and what you're talking about. Well, I am here to tell you that you don't.

So you are someone always calling for specifics. Go ahead, be specific. I want names and corporations.

This ought to be interesting!

I didn't realize that Group Six and PNB comprised every developer in PTC. I just don't see how all the other developers(there must be tens of thousands in PTC)will benefit no matter what happens with the Tennis Center debt.

I have no doubt you know people that don't like DIRECTPAC. When it comes to who votes and wins, those people appear to be seriously out-numbered.

I know a few people who truly believe that the man-in-the-moon logo of Proctor of Gamble is a satanic symbol. That doesn't make them right, it just means I know some really dumb and ignorant people.
