There was a time when we respected our country

By: Letters to the ...

It’s almost impossible to believe these days, but there was a time when Americans were strong and loyal. We respected our President and government and cared for the rights, safety and welfare of people in other countries. We respected God and attended church to worship our creator, and we respected each other.

Then something happened and the nation began to change. People began looking inwardly instead of outwardly. Selflessness was replaced by selfishness, respect by disrespect. God was replaced by us and money, and people grew ugly and unfriendly. This is where we are today.

We have a wonderful President whom a Democrat Congress decrees as a fool and condemns the good he is doing. The Kennedys and their brand of liars and cowards, lead by Pelosi, attempt to mislead our people in an effort to abandon the people of Iraq and concede the Middle East to terrorists and thugs.

Is it any wonder that countries around the world are losing their respect for the United States, once a bastion of truth and freedom and a guardian of the weak and oppressed?

America, wake up and come back to God and the truth while there remains time. Don’t concede this wonderful nation over to chaos and loss.

We have a wonderful President whom a Democrat Congress decrees as a fool and condemns the good he is doing.

With the current president’s poor approval rating, I think it’s fair to say that it is not only a newly elected Congress controlled by Democrats that view the current president as a fool. It is difficult to ascertain the ‘good’ that he is doing when daily we find out that his trusted advisors have been lying to the American public with impunity. One shouldn't condemn what one cannot identify. We should be able to list his 'good' deeds regarding the following: Katrina; Military Equipment; Medical care for our wounded; Cost of living; etc., etc., etc. The list is embarrassingly short.

The Kennedy’s and their brand of liars and cowards, lead by Pelosi, attempt to mislead our people in an effort to abandon the people of Iraq and concede the Middle East to terrorists and thugs.

It seems that the terms ‘liars and cowards’ can be applied to both sides of the aisle. Our current president asked the top American war strategists about our position in Iraq. . . and he has ignored them! After reading the Task Force report and listening to the various military leaders – the plan of the Task Force would not abandon the Iraqi people or concede the Middle East to terrorists. It would not be wisdom to give this president another large budget with no restraints . . .since his last expenditure cost 3000 American lives and millions of dollars that are unaccounted for. Congress has a responsibility to the American people. . . not to the personal ‘whims’ of this president and his cohorts (the Halliburton crowd).

When the actions of ALL of the citizens of this country (leaders included) match the words in our great Constitution - then will the United States reflect 'One nation under God with liberty and justice for all.'

America "came back to god" as you see it, and look what it got us: a president who was a war dodging, crack-smoking, alcoholic.(who is also a buisness failure, that's one thing about W. he never found a buisness he couldn't ruin). He couldn't even handle the light duty of national guard, without being AWOL. Our current president is why the rest of the world hates us.....the dems haven't been in control until just 2 months ago.....the Ws have had it for 6 yrs....long enough to earn disrespect.

The real problem in this country is that the alleged "christians" act like anything but.......they follow the "bible", their bible when it's convenient for them...... unless they are in church on Sunday, they rarely practice what they preach......that's not behavior to applaud or emulate.

The "rest of the world" doesn't hate us. They just have a bad image of Americans, because they tend to flock to their other countries, spitting and crapping over everything, talking loudly, and debasing their culture by calling it stupid.

Bush is a dork, but you're way off base. No religion has ever literally interpreted every sentence of its Holy Moly Book.

I've kept intouch with families I have stayed with as an exchange student......and I also read many newpapers online......they really hate us.....for better or worse they associate every American with our leader......which isn't good. They do judge us by our chosen leader........which is sad..... We need to choose better in the future.

Well whoopdiedado for you and your interweb. I guess I should have shut my mouth, as I don't travel over seas once a year and spend half of my time discussing this topic with other travellers in hotels, as well as with natives in bars and what not. Yes, they hate Bush. But we are not all associated with him, only with stereotypical behaviours.

I'm just pointing out that they do lump us together with our chosen leader.....which I still say is sad, and we should choose better in the future. They do judge us by his behavior and right now America could use all of the friends we can get.....

Yes! Those were such simple times! When husbands could beat their wives, as The Bible decrees, without fear of retribution from liberal, satanist law makers, and when divorced women were seen as the disgusting breeders of whores that they are.

Yes! Those were such wonderful times, when presidents could sleep with whomever the pleased, as long as they could convince the nation that their evil, idol-worshipping Catholic ways would not inform their reign.

Yes! Please take us back to the time when church was an obligation, not a right. Please return us to the days of lynchings and the struggle for civil rights. Please take us back to the day when homosexuality was designated as the sickness that is truly is.

Praise God. Thank you for taking a stand, David.

Wow, such hate in challenging an opion you disagree with. Let me guess what political party you support.

I don't think the letter writer wants to support the wrongs of the past, just remind people how people could disagree without being disagreeable.

How about the times when kids could play outside without worrying about pedophiles because neighbors watched out for each other. When security systems weren't needed and doors were unlocked.

Maybe if more people went to church we would have fewer abortions and drug use like were rare in your bad old days. Books like Johnny has two mommies would be kept out of our schools. Kids would actually graduate from High School!

The only sickness here is hate.

Major, you confused me. "When neighbors watched out" for our kids outside?
It does "take a village" to raise a child, Hillary says. I agree.
Didn't know you did!
Are you saying that the Bible has some "wrongs of the" past" in it?
By the way, our Marines and soldiers generally disagree by being disagreeable.

You have to be kidding......church people are the worst! The kids that are the worst delinquents in my neighborhood have been taken to church since they were little. Their parents make a big show of going to church, but they are even worse than their kids.

Church people behave when it's convenient for them.......which based on the behavior in PTC isn't very darn often. Snap out of it.

Get over it man. It's obvious that you hate Christians. Think before you speak, twinker.

That's just you thinking you're clever and oh-so-intelligent. You have misdirected your dislike for certain attributes into an entire group of people.

Choad.

When I see something different, other than the behavior I have seen so far ....I will change my mind, until then.....All I know is what I see everyday.

The disturbing thing is that you think abortion, drug use, and homosexuality are always bad. The facts are presented in what I said, along with a healthy dose of hatred for those facts. I am ashamed to think of the various ways that my ancestors hated others. I don't hate the author of that letter, I just hate absolutely everything he represents. And there is a real difference.

More kids graduate now than have ever graduated from high school ever, albeit, they graduate with a knowledge that falls far behind that of 13 other counties. And they graduate wonks that can somehow still hold beliefs similar to yours. So, yeah, we've still got a long way to go.

I'm a libertarian, live 2 seconds from downtown Fayetteville, and never, ever lock my door; nor do I molest small children as I smoke ridiculous amounts of marijuana and down a bottle of Maker's Mark.

And you can suck it.
