We should support President’s Iraq plan

President Bush has a clear plan for victory in Iraq that begins with training Iraqi forces so they can defend their country and fight the terrorists. We are making tremendous progress towards this objective.

Withdrawing from Iraq, as Democrats in Washington propose, would send a dangerous signal to our enemies that we cut and run when the going gets tough. President Bush is offering a clear strategy to win, not a political quick fix.

Social Security: Fix Social Security now once and for all. Social Security is sound for today’s seniors and for those nearing retirement, but it needs to be fixed for younger workers, our children and grandchildren. The government has made promises it cannot afford to pay for with the current pay-as-you-go system. If we do not act to fix Social Security now, the only solutions will be dramatically higher taxes, massive new borrowing or sudden and severe cuts in Social Security benefits or other government programs.

Safety and security: Protect the homeland. President Bush is committed to keeping the nation strong and secure through strengthening our military, deploying a missile defense, strengthening the NATO alliance and supporting military families and veterans. The President is committed to promoting an independent and democratic Iraq to ensure further stability in the Middle East and the world on the whole.

Jobs and economy: Build a better tomorrow for our children and grandchildren. America’s growing economy requires a flexible, highly skilled workforce, and the President is committed to providing American workers with the training that they need to succeed. President Bush has put forth an ambitious agenda to ensure that America’s economy remains the most prosperous in the world and believes we must ensure every adult can access the training necessary to close the skills gap in America.

Imagine my surprise when I went out of town this week and saw this EXACT same "letter to the editor" in another newspaper (with a different "author", of course).

It turns out that this is part of a GOP.com campaign to drum up support for George W. Bush.

You got hoodwinked, Cal!

All major parties have letter generators like this. Take it with a grain of salt.

Maybe next time Cal will be more on his toes.

No one got hoodwinked. The letter in Fayette County is greatly appreciated, fooling everyone or not! It is similar to visiting Walter Reed hospital, but not building 18! No, don't go down that hallway Mr. President, we will lead you where we want you to go.
The Three star general across the street would like you at his mansion for lunch, sir----right now. Some day sir, we will show you the 50,000 soldiers who have had their brains swolen by roadside blasts, but right now that is not convenient.

You must have just watched the State of the Union address on Tivo. Quick follow up question? Where is the "meat." Meat is a term used to describe justification and support for that which you contend.

"President Bush has a clear plan for victory in Iraq that begins with training Iraqi forces so they can defend their country and fight the terrorists. We are making tremendous progress towards this objective."

What is that "tremendous progress?" And why are we sending MORE troops if we are making "tremendous progress" in training Iraqis?

"Safety and security: Protect the homeland. President Bush is committed to keeping the nation strong and secure through strengthening our military, deploying a missile defense, strengthening the NATO alliance and supporting military families and veterans."

How's that southern boarder done under the current administration?
How do you "deploy" a missile defense when you ALREADY HAVE a deployed missile defense? That's like saying the president is going to form the EPA to protect the environment.

Oh... and our veterans.... Please do some HOMEWORK on the VA budget cuts, the state of neglect our veteran's medical facilities are in, and the military readiness levels as reported by each service chief. Well, hey, if YOU believe what you wrote, and it gives you the motivation to fly your Bush/Cheney sticker proudly, go for it. Knock yourself out! I'll be standing over here in a reality-based environment.
