I think I just got "scammed"

I am entering my daughter in to the "Miss Pride of Fayette County" pageant to be held March 10th. I went to a dress shop downtown Fayetteville. You know which one - with the dresses in the window. I did purchase a dress (In which I know I was OVER Charged - I looked the same dress up on the Internet and the manufacturer is less expensive - my mistake) Needless to say I was the one to purchase it. I ordered other accessories, I was told one price - charged another. I did not purchase the accessories.

After some research, this is a minority owned busoness, do you think it was because my daughter and I are white and live in PTC?

I would never recommend this dress shop.

One of my favorite places to shop in Fayetteville is owned by a minority. Her husband is a teacher. They treat me with respect and are very kind. Smiling
I HAVE been treated badly by a long time Fayetteville white owned business. I hope you get my point.

Valleygirl - the citizens in Fayette County see you for who/what you are. I love living here!

Hmmm - what's your point valleygirl? There are many minority-owned businesses in Fayetteville and Atlanta. Do you want a list - so that you can 'boycott' and malign them all? I see a majority of 'white' Fayette County citizens patronizing these 'minority-owned' businesses with no problems because of their 'race'.

Oh wow...I read the responses again and everyone is right on clue with this in response to ValleyGirl....But I have one question. Didn't they say in their letter that they were:white, male and from PTC??? Why the name "xvalleyGIRL" then?
Personally I'd like to know why you had to add that you live in P.T.C. Who cares? P.T.C is no better then Fayetteville, neither are the people. It is just keeping up with your neighbor there, that's all.

xvalleygirl999, just for your information (from someone who has worked in retail) it is a common practice that shops charge more for products they sell than the manufacturer’s price (often up to double). This allows the shop to operate and make a profit, and allows the manufacturer to get their product out to the market.

To indicate that your paying more than the manufacturer price for the dress was underhanded (and worse a racial issue) is simply wrong. Most people who are concerned with getting a good deal on an item spend time to do the research first, not after, as you have obviously done with this scenario.

Maybe if you dedicated more of the time you spent “researching” this minority business finding out what you were willing to pay for a dress and the best way to get a dress for that price, you wouldn’t be in this situation in the first place.

As for the accessories (you being told one price and being charged another) that does seem wrong, but I cannot say whether that was simply a clerical error or an intentional slight.

And before you jump down my throat accusing me of racial prejudice against you or loyalty to the store, I am a white female who has never been to that store and I do not even know who owns it. I am simply a Fayette County (Peachtree City to be more specific) resident who is tired of seeing people throw around racial slurs.

are a part of staying in business. When I worked in a jewelry store, I found out their markups are in the ballpark of 500% on diamonds. Makes me see them as not as precious as all the marketing and media hype wants us to believe.

I don't know of a net site that indicates the manufacturer's price for the distributor or retailer to the general public. It just isn't done that way.
Why would the manufacturer sell over the net at the same cost he charges the retailer? The retailer would never buy another dress from the manufacturer if they did that.
Almost everything has a suggested retail price put on the article at the factory. That is what the retailer starts with to sell it. He may if he wishes sell it for more but he couldn't if no one else did, he often sells it for less (sale).
Most net sites sell for the same thing as the retailer to the public, plus freight unless you buy enough dollars worth to get free freight. I think what we have in this case is the differences in heritages trying to communicate! It is suicide for your business if you tell a customer a price, then order it, then try to raise the price when they come to get it. That doesn't happen. If it turns out to cost the retailer more than he anticipated, he must get the customer's permission to charge them more. If someone in business is that stupid they don't need to be in business, or if the customer is that stupid they need to get someone else to buy for them!

Please this is an English speaking county. What is YA RIGHT? Not English, maybe Hillbilly? I experienced this situation. It had nothing to do with retail. It had to do with the fact that I am White Male. Who is more discriminated against other that the White Male. So you are saying that the situation was correct, are you the dress shop owner? The Black Female can over charge a White Male and everyone is OK with that???? Idiot!!!!!

This is a BAD shop owner (lessee. I hope they go out of business. And SOON........

Of course you paid more at the retail store then what the manufacturer advertised. The retailer wants to make a profit to stay in business. That's just common sense.

So just for the record - we should all purchase form the manufacturer. What is your intelligent answer to the difference in the price of the accessories? The first price was 45.00 when I went back to purchase the price was 85.00.

I know the retail store is there to stay in business. But I do feel the way I do. I know what happen - I just want everyone to know the same.
