Air show to have Air Force flavorThu, 02/22/2007 - 5:45pm
By: John Thompson
This year’s version of The Great Georgia Air Show will feature quite a bit of military firepower, as America celebrates the 60th anniversary of the United States Air Force. The Air Force will have a number of aircraft on the ground, and although some of them can’t land at Falcon Field due to size, weight and other restrictions, many will fly in the skies over Peachtree City, according to Air Show Chairman Jerry Cobb. The event is slated for Oct. 13 and Oct. 14. Among the aircraft that will be demonstrated in the air are the F-22 Raptor along with the F-15, F-16 and the A-10, Cobb said. The Thunderbirds are not able to make it due to a scheduling conflict, but the other aircraft are expected to put on quite a spectacular show. Also joining the skies will be a team of four WW II T-6 planes, Jim LeRoy’s popular Bulldog show, and a comedy team called the “Alabama Boys” who will land a Piper Cub airplane on the back of a truck, Cobb said. Numerous civic groups and organizations use the air show as a fund-raiser by manning concession booths as the city is flooded with visitors from out-of-town eager to see the aerial and ground-based displays.
