Product recalls for week of Feb. 11 to Feb. 15

These recalls were issued this week from Feb. 11 to Feb. 15 by various federal and state agencies.

SNAPS ON BOYS’ JACKETS CONTAIN LEAD

Samara Brothers is recalling Heavyweight Outerwear Jackets sold nationwide from October 2006 to November 2006. The snap closures on the outerwear jackets contain excessive amounts of lead.

This recall involves boy’s outerwear jackets with a Carter’s-brand logo on the front. The jackets were sold in toddler and boy’s sizes.

CHILDREN’S HOODED GARMENTS POSE STRANGULATION HAZARD

Basix U.S.A. is recalling Children’s Hooded Sweatshirts and Windbreakers with Drawstrings sold nationwide from May 2003 to December 2006. The garments have a drawstring through the hood, posing a strangulation hazard.

This recall involves children’s hooded sweatshirts and windbreakers sizes S to XL. A tag sewn inside of the garment reads, “Basix USA.” Style number PK215, PK218, KPF265, KPF275, or KH185 is printed on the garment’s hang tag.

Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the sweatshirts to eliminate the hazard.

MICROCONTROLLERS FOR HONEYWELL DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS

Atmel Corp. is recalling to upgrade Software in Microcontrollers of Honeywell® Digital Cellular Communicators sold nationwide from July 2006 to October 2006.

The microcontroller in the communicator can enter an unrecoverable lock-up state due to a programming issue. The lock-up could result in a service interruption, and fail to transmit an alarm signal in the event of a fire or property invasion.

The digital cellular communicator can be used as a primary means of security communications for a residence or business. The recall involves the Atmel microcontroller AT91SAM7S256 installed in Honeywell digital cellular communicator, Model 7845GSM.

Customers who have not been contacted directly should immediately contact Honeywell at (800) 573-0154, between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. ET Monday through Friday for information on how to receive a free replacement communicator with updated software. Installers that purchased the communicators have been contacted directly.

BATTERY PACKS FOR TOY VEHICLES POSE FIRE HAZARD

JAKKS Pacific Inc., of Malibu, Calif. is recalling Battery Packs for Toy Vehicles sold nationwide from August 2006 to January 2007. The lithium-ion polymer batteries used to charge the toy vehicles can ignite while charging, posing a fire hazard.

This recall involves battery packs used with FLY WHEELS XPV toy vehicles. The battery packs were sold with a charger (item number 73904) and with the radio-controlled XPV toy (item number 73906). Item numbers are printed on the product’s packaging above the barcode label. The batteries are marked “Fly Wheelz,” “XPV,” and “JAKKS Pacific,” “Lithium-ion Polymer battery (LiPo)” followed by a list of warnings and precautions. The XPV Xtreme Performance Vehicle is not the subject of this exchange program.

SEPTIC PUMPS POSE SHOCK HAZARD

Zoeller Pump Co. is recalling Septic Pumps with a 20-foot black cord with a plug sold nationwide from September 2006 to December 2006. The plug on the pumps could have a grounding problem that could pose an electrical shock hazard.

The recalled Zoeller brand septic pumps have date codes 0906 and 1006. On models 53, 57, 151, 152 and 153 the date code is printed on the nameplate on the top of the pump. On Model WM48 the date code is printed on the tag near the plug. “Philippines” is stamped on the plug. FISHER-PRICE TOYS POSE CHOKING HAZARD

Fisher-Price, of East Aurora, N.Y. is recalling “Laugh and Learn” Bunny Toys sold nationwide from May 2006 to December 2006. The pink pompom nose can detach, posing a choking hazard.

This recall involves the Laugh and Learn Learning Bunny that measures about 10-inches tall. The words, “Laugh and Learn” are printed on the bunny’s shirt. Product numbers involved in the recall are: K0468, K2960, K2961, K2962, K2963, K2964, K2965, K3440, K6898, K7884, L0327, and K5862. Only bunnies with three dimensional pompom noses are included in this recall.

MAGNETIC PUZZLES POSE CHOKING HAZARD

Jazwares Inc. is recalling Link-N-Lite™ Magnetic Light-Up Puzzles sold nationwide from June 2006 to January 2007. Small magnets used to connect the puzzle pieces can fall out. Magnets found by young children can be swallowed or aspirated. If more than one magnet is swallowed, the magnets can attract each other and cause intestinal perforation or blockage, which can be fatal.

The recalled Link-N-Lite™ Magnetic Light-Up Puzzle, which is a double-sided plastic magnetic puzzle for ages 3 and up, has two designs. The Disney-brand puzzle shows the Disney Princesses on the front and Ariel, from The Little Mermaid, on the back. The Marvel-brand puzzle shows “Spider-Man & Friends” on both sides. Each puzzle measures 8 inches by 10.5 inches, contains nine pieces with four or six magnets per piece, and lights-up when all pieces are in place. A 9-volt battery is placed in the center bottom piece that contains a battery case.

PEANUT BUTTER MAY BE CONTAMINATED

ConAgra is recalling all Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter beginning with product code 2111 that already was distributed due to risk of contamination with Salmonella Tennessee (a bacterium that causes foodborne illness). The company also is destroying all affected products in their possession. The company will cease production until the exact cause of contamination can be identified and eliminated. ConAgra will advise consumers to destroy any Peter Pan and Great Value brand peanut butter beginning with product code 2111 in their possession. we bought two jars for the price of one of Peter Pan peanut butter at the publix in Fayetteville the day before this recall. Check your jars people
