A New Direction for Fayette County Republicans

Dear Fayette County Republicans,

If I may introduce myself, my name is Michael Posey. I have been privileged to have lived here in Fayette County for these last 7 years and have served on the Executive Board of the Republican Party for the last three. I have been honored to have served on the Executive Board as a vice chair, but now I feel that I can help the local party in a more direct leadership role. Therefore, I am announcing my candidacy to run for Chairman of the Fayette County Republican Party in the upcoming March 24, 2007 election. I am asking for your support and for your help.

We have seen a dramatic change in our National, State and Local Party leadership over the last many years and much of it has been very good. We are obviously proud that our State has moved from a Democratic controlled legislature and executive branch, to a Republican controlled government. However, even with the many improvements our Grand Old Party has seen in the last several years, I feel as though we can still accomplish even more at the National, State and Local levels. I believe I am the leader that can help make that change happen.

Should you consider me as your new Party Chairman, I will make new priorities for our local party that I believe will help solidify our Fayette County as firmly Republican, and also keep our State and yes, even our National Leadership, Republican as well. I sincerely believe that any future National and State Victories in 2008 begin at the grassroots level. To build from the grassroots, we must direct our efforts in a more concerted effort in which we are opening our doors to new people who will bring new energy and new ideas to help meet this challenge.

In addressing this challenge, I will make these changes to our Party. I will immediately move that we revise the rules of the Party to summarily exclude the local party from supporting any Republican Candidate in any race that has any Republican opposition. It’s not the Executive Board's place to be the "Godfather" of local Republican Politics. Our job is not to support any single Republican over any other Republican, but instead, our job is to help build the foundation for which all qualified and hard working Republicans can accept the challenge of running for public office and have already in place a network of Republican support.

In addition, I promise my goal will be to set as an example for all future Executive Boards, a fiscally sound and responsible budget, in which all monies raised by and for the Republican Party is directly used toward getting the first priority completed. The donations and fees paid by our Local Party Members should be used as frugally as possible. No major expenditures will be approved by the board unless and until all facts are properly vetted in "Noticed" and "Open" meetings. I will not permit major expenditures to be placed on our Agenda at the last moment or by oral motions, and I will require that the Board members properly investigate the wisdom of these major expenses and require super majority votes by the Board, rather than by a mere majority.

Finally, I will do my very best in opening the doors to our Party to the very best and brightest of you all. I will work in encouraging more people to become part of our local Republican effort as part of our service to our Country. Although many of us enjoy the camaraderie and friendships we develop in working toward these goals, often our party has made others feel left out and not part of the crowd. Well those days are over. I promise that if your goals are to help our National, State and Local Republican Party to become stronger, more accessible and able to meet the challenges of the 2008 elections and into the future, then I will welcome you with open arms, because we are nothing without your support, your help and your prayers.

I would be extremely proud and humbled if you would not only support me in my candidacy for the Chairman's position, but in your help in making these goals come true.

For your information, the Fayette County Republican Party is having it’s mass precinct meeting on Feb. 24th and its County Convention on March 24th both to be held at the Old Fayette County High School/Sam’s Auditorium. The meetings begin at 9 a.m.. To be eligible to vote at the Convention, you must be named as a delegate at the Precinct Mass Meeting. Please call me directly 770.487.5512 if you have any questions or email me at michaelposey(at) yahoo.com. The Local Party and I need your support.

Thank you for your consideration.

around here but I think the rest of the country is fed up with the promise of the "conservative" revoultion. Most of us don't have any connection to the frat-boy / millionaire disconnect. The "I served by flying around, doin' coke but serving my country in the TX Guard because my Daddy could git me in." Or the Dick Cheney, "I have a bad heart now (& don't pay attention my daughter is {gasp} gay) but I had "Better" things to do than 'Nam." OR Dave Stockman, I went to theology school.
What's going to come home (after the $500 tax rebates) is that the "common" person has nothing in common with the 1% that control 40% of the wealth in this country. That most of us don't even go to church, much less 1 of the churches that think they influence "your" Republican party. It will be interesting to see how Romney, McCain & Giglioni are welcomed in the "baptist" fold...but hey, Haggerty is "cured."
The rest of us live in the Real World.

Look, the baptists will vote for a catholic, a mormon, a thrice divorcee, even a John Travolta, if one of those were chosen for the party's candidate, before they would vote for the sinnin party--the democrats.
The main thang is tuh win, man! Got to git rid uf them welfare mommas, those do-nothingers, them gays (allbut a few misguided usns) those big spenders (oops, thats usns), those war mongers (oops, thats usns to), oh well, there are people who want some of our money and they can't have none!
We can dribble down sum mony as needed to them folk. Ifn they are poor they will join thu army and fight fer usns.

Michael, I'm no Republican but stand stunned at your masochism of running for Chairman of the party destined to become the big loser in the next 3 or 4 elections. In any case, this is America and as we'll have a winner Democratic Party we need the Republican arty to play the other role.

But set your goals a bit higher than the following:

"Should you consider me as your new Party Chairman, I will make new priorities for our local party that I believe will help solidify our Fayette County as firmly Republican,"

Michael, I believe that goal is pretty much a "done deal." I do like your "big tent" ideas as well as leaving primary and other votes between same party candidates up to the voters. It sounds like your heart is in the right place. Hopefully you hold policy above party at the local, state, and federal level. Party first thinking has cost us here in local (spelled PTC M A Y O R and W E S M O R E L A N D) elections.

Cheers

Kevin "Hack" King
