If the City Council of PTC is stupid enough to build TDK with just two lanes, we deserve the beating we will take for it.

I've had discussions with several of the developers on the Coweta side and they are going dense and deep. They also have the complete backing of the Coweta Commission. Mayor Logsdon's lie about TDK being a quite little road only being used by employees in the industrial park is blurring the truth that four lanes are needed or we will see traffic back ups like we have never seen before.

Pathway got knocked out of Sharpsburg because the county people hate them. Sharpsburg doesn't have sewer and the county won't play with them. There's still a lot of heartburn over some of past Summer Grove issues. Doug Mitchell is not the king in Coweta like he was in PTC.

Get smart and go with four lanes. Having to go four lanes after the fact will be twice as expensive and four times the trouble. And we WILL have to go four lanes in the very near future.

are stupid enough? Yes, they are stupid enough. look at the situation our idiot Mayor and council have gotten us in so far.

No, he is not king in Sharpsburg - nor was he king in PTC - far from it. Joel Cowan and Floy Farr were kings and Mitchell was court jester for several years until he worked his way up to "Pretender to the Throne" and he never even got there, although he still seeks fame (check out 20 South rag).

Mitchell is an insecure publicity hound who thinks he is in the same arena as the "Man in Full" developers described by Tom Wolfe. He actually hinted that he was one of the insirations for Mr. Wolfe at an event in Buckhead a couple of years ago. Barf!

Sharpsburg was correct in pushing him away.

Was this the same guy who sued PCDC for several million dollars he said he was due in "bonuses?" Sometime in the 90s.
The people in Wolfe's "Man In Full", women and all, were very interested in watching horses mate in south Georgia enclaves. If you do that and shoot Quail or Pheasants let out of boxes as you pass in an open truck, then you have made it in Georgia.
No one here has quite gotten there yet, or have they? Cheney has.

No, Mitchell was the defendent in that case - it was either Rick or Steve who sued him. I think it was settled for a lot less than "millions"

And certainly, shooting innocent birds and/or animals out of a truck in a controlled enviornment proves you are a wimpy and worthless individual. That would be the Mitchell animal. Let's see how he would do on the other side of a hunt. We could use paintballs.

If not, it will be worse than Eagles Landing/75 was in years to come. I don't care if we don't build a bridge over to Coweta, or build a 10 lane bridge. The state not addressing the intersection at the interstate is going to cause big trouble. Just take a look at all the homes being build within eyesight of that intersection. Fairburn is cutting lose and allowing any and everything.

It has been addressed.

It's on the GA Dot 25 or 30 year plan. That's only some 10 to 15 years after it's needed.

That should help.

By the way, the current plan didn't take into consideration the 3,000 homes in Coweta, the other 1,000 homes on the west side or the current/future growth in South Fulton.

In other words, the GA DOT is right on top if it as usual.

I can retire in another five years. In five years and one day I'm gone. I was only here for the schools and what used to be a fine community.

F.Y.I. It's not just this county. This kind of explosive growth is happening all over the country in "desirable" communities.

It is fun picking on the current city and county councils but they are way out of their element when it comes to such matters.

Developers have the money and money is what gets things done. City and county councils don't contribute millions of dollars to politicians but developers do.

Take the latest Gardisol vaccine as an example. Now try to imagine how much money Merck has spent on getting this vaccine mandated for all female school age children in the country at $350 each. They'll have to rent trucks to haul that much money to the bank.

If Gardisol is as good as it's claimed to be than why hasn't the Govt. declared it a monopolistic company like they tried to do to Microsoft?

Money, money, money, developers have it to spend and cites don't.

Who do you think is going to win.

Face it, PTC can't even scrape up enough money to hire another police officer. Based on that, how much do you think the city can spend fighting TDK?

I'm a Georgia Boy through and through. Grew up in Clayton County in the 70's. Lots of family here on the Southside. I like my place near Lake Peachtree. I don't have to drive up 74 daily either. Good thing, for like you say, the GDOT is on the ball.

I'll say this, IF I do move much more, I think I could live in Colorado. I just spent a week in Breckenridge, for about the 4th time, and boy, those folks love that area.

I have yet to come across anyone who believes TDK is a good idea. In fact, the word "scam" is used quite often to describe the whole deal.

Not once have I heard a local politician give a decent defense of the road.

Submitted by bladderq on Tue, 02/27/2007 - 9:09pm.

TDK is a good idea for 30 or more years in the making. There are not enough Line Creek crossings b'tween Fayette & Coweta. The planned and agreed upon 2 lane crossing is enough. "Scam" is 30 yrs in the making.
Don't you care about what is happening at Fischer Rd and 54/74? Don't you care about what Wally-Mart is built at 154 Sharpsburg-McCollum) & I-85 and US-29? 3 Wally-Marts w/in less than 15 mi of each other.

Who benefits from TDK? PTC? Hardly, there isn't one point anyone can raise to show how life, business or anything else will improve once this road is built and traffic on 74 is increased the 28-60x the independant regional traffic study says it will. 28 to 60 TIMES!!! the current number of cars. Who of us who daily slog through worsening morning & evening rush-hour traffic on this road thinks adding this many cars is going to make things better???.... Bring business to Braelin Village shopping center? Not likely. Until the 54 @ 74 widening was complete I avoided that area like the plague. It was easier to drive down I85 and shop in Newnan and avoid the gridlock. Between the clogged roads trying to get in & out of the 3000+ mega development planned for east Coweta, and the increased competition of the planned all-new retail complex I'd bet Braelin's business actually decreases with TDK. So if no reasonable person sees a benefit for PTC in building TDK, why why why would our Mayor & City Council push it through? Don't they live in PTC, too? Unless they know of a benefit for PTC kept secret all this time, they either are grossly negligent in their representation of the citizens they were elected to represent, OR they stand to personally benefit from the roads & the mega east Coweta development's construction. I'm not sure which is worse, believing they are that clueless or that corrupt. The traffic is going to get worse over time, a lifetime of living in the Atlanta area has shown me that. But why would we purposely make things so much worse so quickly when we have a choice?!!! 4 Lanes? 2 Lanes? Correct answer is NO LANES? If someone wants to present logical reasons why I'm wrong I'd love to read them.

PTC should know that most Coweta Citizens are against the McIntosh Village - the only ones for it seem to be the politicians and commissioners. There are many of us in individual fights on rezoning. If TDK happens McIntosh Village will happen. PTC keep up the fight too!!

Hardly am I saying that - in fact I can't ever imagine a scenario in which I would ever say that even if I were in charge. What I am saying very clearly - to Cal - is that he should add that as a choice to his poll. Why? So we can all get a sense of how many people actually feel that way. I disagree with most of his choices and even the one I am offering, but we learn by acquiring knowledge and some of that knowledge is how apathetic and sheep like some of our citizens and voters actually are. This is a national problem as much as it is a PTC problem, by the way.

Please forgive my ignorance--I'm new to the area, to this site, and to the fray. What is a TDK Extension? I surmise it is some kind of road, but what is the proposal? Where can one find out more information to make an informed decision?

Where do you start?
TDK is a road that is the westward continuation of Crosstown Drive after it crosses State Highway 74. It dead ends near the airport, but some people (mostly evil developer-friendly scum) want to extend this road into Coweta County. The evil people - lets abreviate here and call them ED-FS. So, the ED-FS want to extend that road westward into Coweta County and across Line Creek (with a bridge). The ED-FS said the reason for the extension was to give the thousands of workers in the industrial park a traffic-free way in and out of Peachtree City. This was 2 or 3 years ago and everyone said - good plan ED-FS.

Now, 2 or 3 years later we find out that possibly based upon the new crossing across Line Creek (and the bridge) that some other ED-FS are proposing to develop the Coweta side of the bridge with thousands of houses - like that is a big surprise.

So, the alternate media - which in Fayette County are these blogs and postings get into the act and connect the ED-FSI group with the ED-FSII group. We are entertained with political corruption, accusations of bribes and the "politician in the pocket of developers" nonsense.

Now, we are confronted with the Atlanta Regional Commission insisting that PTC build a 4-lane bridge to accomodate the ED-FS in Coweta County and pay for it with Fayette County tax dollars. Seems unfair - doesn't it?

Peachtree City thinks so and has actually sued the Atlanta Regional Commission to back off their 4-lane idea. Several amatuer bloggers have suggested that PTC city council is ED-FS and on the take for even this decision, saying it is a smoke screen - meaning they really want the bridge they are suing to prevent to actually happen. Confused yet?

Anyhow, the reality of this thing is that a bridge and roadway extension has been designed, the right of way acquired (expensively and with a very bad reversion condition) and the road will proceed. The detractors will be full of accusations and there will be a huge debate, which as a newbie you are welcome to join. New ideas are usually better than the old ideas, so please join in.

There are several large Coweta projects (at least 3) that need a TDK Highway extension before they can become viable at the size and scale that they have thus been envisioned. The largest of these is the McIntosh Trail Village project in unincorporated Coweta County.

This proposed development encompasses 1,600 acres immediately adjacent PTC (but across Line Creek), and includes 3,000 single-family homes ($300K plus), 164 live/ work residential units, 946,050 square feet of top-of-the-line retail, and 119,650 square feet of office space. The proposal shows primary access onto McIntosh Trail and the TDK Boulevard extension for the estimated 43,953 automobile trips per day by 2016.

Because McIntosh Trail Village cannot be built without a direct major road system to I-85 (e.g., the new improved Highway 74), to be truly viable McIntosh Trail Village MUST have TDK. Some type of development can be built here without TDK, but it could never be the size and scale as it is currently proposed. The 946,050 square feet retail center would certainly never be built without TDK.

We are talking about a +$1.5 BILLION NEW CITY. Why would 3 Peachtree City council members be hell-bent on building a TDK highway to eastern Coweta when it is clear that a traffic nightmare is to follow (plus the loss of millions of sales tax dollars from Fayette County to Coweta County)? Everyone familiar with this project knows that a 2-lane road will become 4-lane in a couple of years - - and a 2-lane road is ABSOLUTELY required at this time by the McIntosh Trail Village financial backers before they will give the green light to underwrite the project - -TDK IS THAT CRITICAL. MANY powerful people in the area are thus behind this project.

TDK literally increases eastern Coweta land value into the hundreds of millions, making it some of the most lucrative undeveloped land in metro Atlanta. TDK unlocks this rural ag land from deer hunting into glitzy upscale retail and $500k homes.

Why will TDK be defeated? Well, it is that beautiful thing called representative government! The 3 Coweta developer friendly council members will all be gone within 3 years, and the enraged PTC populace (that they have created) will replace them with slow/no growth proponents. TDK may actually be stopped right before ribbon cutting, but it will be stopped. All 5 PTC council members in 2009 will be solidly against TDK.

If I were a banker I would be very careful about loaning money for this project...it is going to be a battle the out-of-towners are not going to win because, ultimately, they don't vote here. Speaking with my neighbors, TDK has energized people like they have never been before. The PTC tsunami is quiet at the moment as it passes under the surface in deep water, but when it hits the beach at election time...

If you think TDK's gonna ruin 74, wait til you see what comes outta Senoia.

They're going for a big sewer plant (well, big for them anyway). I give it 10 years before they kill 74 traffic.

Anybody with a brain would stop complaining and instead ask for a -----.

Fill in the blank. Let's see how smart YOU are.

MacDuff Pky.

2 lanes, 4 lanes or leave it unconnected from 74.

I vote for 4 lanes to keep the extra traffic away from the 54/74 intersection and you could make the developer work it into their plans along with space for a new school or two.

Like TDK, it's going to end up 4 lanes anyway so plan for it and do it right the first and only time.

The other choice you should add to your poll is
. I don't have all the facts. Let our elected officials do their best.

Isn't that the way it should work instead of government by blogs? Ask Thomas Jefferson or James Madison. How would those two react to today's political enviornment?

Nixon would still be President if we had taken that attitude. He would have changed the Constitution to suit himself. Also, the Supreme Court would have 75 ultra-right-wing republicans on it, voting 75-0 on every death penalty and for the release of every corporate CEO charged locally.
The White House Plumber Corps would have a division (20,000) in every state watching and arresting.

Are you saying "shut up and trust us?" Democracies and free people do not typically behave that way. That is more a behavior for grazing animals like sheep and goats, but PTC citizens are far, far from sheep or goats. Elected officials are actually HELD ACCOUNTABLE for the promises that they obviously forgot they made on the campaign trail. As a matter of fact, we're still trying to liberate a couple of countries who's leadership said "shut up and trust us." But keep arguing your point. That will keep the rest of us from becomming complacent.

Try rereading again in the AM when the booze has worn off. The point is that we govern thru and by our elected representatives - just like our founding fathers envisioned. Although there were many things they did not forsee, one that they did was the impossibility of a pure democracy - aka mob rule.

You vote these people in for whatever reason and let them do their best and then either reelect them or elect someone else next time.

And the big lie coming back "you and your buddies bought yourself one election...ain't gonna last" still isn't true. I did not give money to any candidate in the last election. Neither did Direct PAC. As Yogi Berra said "You can look it up"

wow, the whole "we don't know all the information, lets have the people in charge make all the decisions for us" attitude is kinda scary. The only information anyone needs to make their mind up on this is that TDK will INEVITABLY and irreversibly increase traffic to a nasty level while providing virtually no benefit to the citizens of PTC. What other information do you need?
