The complaint about the 3-year-old urinating at the gas station is a thinly disguised anti-Mexican comment. First, how does the writer know this is a Mexican family? Maybe they are from Guatemala or Colombia. Perhaps there was a baby or younger child in the car that the mother did not want to leave unattended, a child the writer did not see because his/her blinders were on. As the mother of a boy, I know they frequently miss the target when urinating and 3-year-old boys can have bladder control problems. Lastly, did you or any of the other gawkers think to simply ask the mother, “May I help you?” Kindness, not criticism, is best, in my opinion. ---------------------------------------------------------------- I would like to respond to the person that complained about the “Mexican” child urinating at the gas station. First of all, how did he know that the woman was Mexican? I highly doubt that he approached her and asked where she was from. So I have to believe that he made the assumption that just because she “looked” Hispanic or because she was speaking Spanish, she was automatically from Mexico. So, if I see a redhead, I would just automatically assume they are Irish? Or if I see an Asian, I must assume they are from China? Mexico is one out of about 22 countries that are Spanish-speaking countries in the world. I would like to teach this person that there is no “look” a Hispanic person fits, because Hispanics have a variety of looks, depending on where they are from. “Ignorance is bliss” is not a quote that would work in a situation like this, because in this case ignorance makes this person look like a fool. I am not trying to sound racist, but if you think you have a problem with immigrants, then talk to the Indians. ---------------------------------------------------------------- In response to the person that was so concerned about the 400-pound woman who waddled out of a BBQ joint and so sarcastically stated, “I have no idea why she’s so big.” Maybe if you applied a little bit of common sense you would see that you, yourself, could very well be. I bet as you stared at her you had a disgusted look on your face and that in your deep thought you didn’t even realize that the overweight woman noticed you staring at her with that “look.” Then for whatever reason she got that big, which could very well be medical reasons, the repetition of feeling bad, sad, unworthy and having low self-esteem just made her want to go home and indulge in something else that would momentarily take away the pain. You know, it takes a lot less energy to just smile at someone. Not to mention you might feel better about yourself also, to receive a smile back. Unless you are just an unhappy, judgmental person. My sympathy goes out to you, not the 400-pound woman. Maybe the next time you go to church you can ask God to forgive you for being judgmental and not loving thy neighbor, or you could just stop going to church so you won’t be a hypocrite. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Regarding “Random drug tests coming to schools?” article: I believe if you are going to test the students, then the same random tests should be administered to all Fayette County School System employees (from the superintendent on down to the principals, teachers, bus drivers, kitchen staff, etc.). It would be unacceptable and unreasonable to expect the students to be held to a higher standard than the Fayette County School System employees. They should also implement random car, briefcase and purse searches for the employees. You never know when one of them might decide to go postal on the students. ---------------------------------------------------------------- It seems as though Peachtree City is being invaded by dorky women wearing baseball hats with a ponytail wearing Speedos or a sweat suit. So much for the sex appeal; not surprising the divorce rate is so high. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Dear PTC Council: Let the lady have her chickens. Instead, focus on preserving PTC from overdevelopment. And yes, we need Stuart and Judi voted out. Not only are they incompetent, but they are rude when they respond to valid inquiries about the state of things. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Peachtree City Mayor Logsdon recently met with Coweta Chairman Higgins to discuss the GRTA demand for a four-lane bridge over Line Creek. I’m sure Coweta was only too happy to assist our mayor with this. Our leader has insisted that the bridge be only two lanes, not four. I can just imagine the chuckles on the other side of the creek with this issue. As Coweta is only looking out for Coweta’s cash cow, they probably countered with an eight-lane fly-over similar to Spaghetti Junction to get their citizens and shoppers quickly onto Peachtree City roads. They also insisted we pay for it. Our mayor quickly agreed, as Peachtree City will not have to purchase any additional land. Woo-hoo, we win! The golfers can play under the raised roadway, and planes out of Falcon Field can fly underneath. I think we have a plan. Brilliant! ---------------------------------------------------------------- What’s at the bottom of this pursuit to extend TDK? It has all become a sort of “God giveth and Harold Logsdon taketh away” kind of scenario. Someone needs to tell us what we possibly gain from extending TDK. ---------------------------------------------------------------- No one in my neighborhood supports the TDK road. None of the mothers at my child’s school supports it. I have yet to hear anyone at my church say they are in favor of the road. So why is Mayor Logsdon still forcing it on us? Can we recall or impeach him? ---------------------------------------------------------------- I have been living here for the past nine years. I knew about the growth development before moving here. I didn’t agree with it then and I surely don’t agree with it now. I have been fighting all these years with city officials and the board of education not only for the rights for myself, my family and for the rights of you, Peachtree City citizens. I will continue to fight as long as I live here. There is one thing that I missed and I am hoping that Peachtree citizens will help me figure this one out because I am definitely getting the runaround. Why are they building homes across the street from Peeples, Rising Starr, and Starr’s Mill? Who owns that land? And why didn’t they take that land and make it useful to the schools? ---------------------------------------------------------------- The leadership at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School demonstrated a lack of Christian character by choosing to honor their state champion cross-country team at a home basketball game against rival Landmark Christian School (the state runner-up) on Jan. 30. Landmark has won seven state cross-country titles and not once have they honored their team in front of another school, especially not in front of the state runner-up. Where has good old-fashioned competition and rivalry gone that now we resort to in-your-face poor sportsmanship? OLM’s cross-country team is deserving of recognition; however, not in a way that displays poor sportsmanship towards their opponent. ---------------------------------------------------------------- The comments on Mike Vena are well-written and deserved. Mike Vena is a good man and a good educator. I coached middle school football alongside him for two years. I subbed with him in PE at middle school. He is a good man of integrity and devotion to his work. I now have the privilege of subbing for him and helping with track and field events at Whitewater High. ---------------------------------------------------------------- You know I am so sick and tired of all the double standards. Our government has done everything to make sure equal rights are upheld. There has become an over-abundance of “black” everything. Now organizations that don’t even advertise to be white only but just because there is not a black member get sued. Shouldn’t we start suing all these “black” organizations that are so blatant in expressing their discrimination against the rest of America? ---------------------------------------------------------------- Let me see if I understand you correctly. You can accurately quote the law as it applies to four-way stop signs and yield signs, but apparently take issue with those that take an extra moment to proceed at such intersections. I suspect that, like you, they know the law but, unlike you, they are making sure it is safe to proceed despite legally having the right of way. Apparently, you don’t acknowledge the law requiring you to stay in the acceleration lane to the interstate until permitted to change lanes. Therefore, when the inevitable occurs, I will notify 911 of your accident for you. If the wreck that you cause is serious, I will stop and render first aid to you and your victims as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------- To the person that “thinks” they know the Georgia driving code, or at least the parts that they want to use: Regarding my merging onto I-85 at Ga. Highway 74, I’m not talking about trying to merge all the way over to your so-called “fast lane,” which by the way is technically the “passing lane” in the manual. I was referring to getting on the freeway from the ramp. If you pass me by crossing the bold white line (which again, technically in the same manual, is known as the “gore area”) you are breaking the law. Be patient and you can be on your merry way. Next time, don’t stop for that biscuit and you’ll be ahead of me. ---------------------------------------------------------------- I can generally talk about the illegal immigration issue without the veins in my neck bulging. But I just can’t get myself to even consider negotiating a compromise with someone that has invaded my country and is expecting to be rewarded for this illegal action. ---------------------------------------------------------------- I was wrong. It is not over yet. The Fat Lady can’t sing ‘til she speaks fluent Spanish. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Happy birthday, President Ronald Reagan. Thank you for serving our country and protecting our freedom. Thank you for giving us such phrases as “Peace through strength.” May you rest in peace. login to post comments |
