Pathway drops annexation proposal

In a move that left many residents stunned, Pathway Communities has decided to drop its annexation request to the Town of Sharpsburg.

The move comes less than two weeks after the Town Council had approved the first reading of a proposal by the development company to annex 500 acres into the town near McIntosh Trail and Ga. Highway 54. The Peachtree City-based company wanted to create a development called Twelve Parks at Sharpsburg and would have featured 725 homes, 60 townhomes and two large commercial tracts.

The notice was sent to Sharpsburg officials Thursday afternoon, and Pathway provided an e-mail response to The Citizen on the reasons for the withdrawal.

"The application was withdrawn from the Town of Sharpsburg because it is important that the infrastructure is in place to provide Coweta County with a top-notch community. We want to ensure the needs of residents will be met in a manner consistent with other great developments in Coweta County. This necessary step will make certain that we can continue our successful model of creating communities in an environment where residents will say 'this is the best place I've ever lived.' We are looking at all options as it relates to seeing Twelve Parks come to fruition," said Peggy Sullivan, president of Pathway Communities.

The move comes after a citizen’s group was formed in the East Coweta town questioning the wisdom of annexing such a large tract into the town that does not have water or sewerage capacity.

I've got to disagree with you Robert W. Morgan (post below) on the "why" of Pathway's departure.

I think Reese and Senoia didn't want the competition and they cut Pathway out of the 4 million gallon sewer deal. If you go back and read the articles on Coweta County working with Senoia and Reese on the structuring of the deal, you'll notice both Pathway and Sharpsburg never come up in their discussions.

Just my guess.

What this actually means is that Pathways' lender pulled back and said if there is no guarantee of sewer capacity then no loan.

The annexation was something Sharpsburg wanted, but they did not have the clout to pull off the sewer capacity. So it was a lose, lose for city and developer.

Now that 725 homes have been taken off the table for reasons related to sewer (as predicted 3 months ago by this dead, but concerned blogger) what do you think the fate of Tom Reese's project? Less density? as was predicted right here.

There is no need to panic over proposals - especially if you all pressure Harold to keep TDK down to 2 lanes.

Everthing is going to be ok.

Why is it that the only way to get justice with local governments is to form a citizen's group like they did in East Coweta? Tyrone formed one, North Fayette has one and now Peachtree City is starting one. The stupid politicans go deaf once they're elected.

How much you want to bet that Senoia and Coweta County told Pathway they could forget ever wanting to hook on the new sewer system they're building? There is a God!

Well now we've got to see if the new Peachtree City citizen's group can knock off Harold Logsdon (Peachtree City's version of Ricky Bobby) and the TDK disaster. Like Harold always says, "If your developer buddies ain't number one, you're a loser!"

Did he get campaign money from the Reese family? I didn't see a Reese name in the group that gave him a minimum of $100, but I've been told he did get money from the family.

To Save Our City - Jones pulled up all the numbers and put them in a blog (he's an IT guy and can easily do all that stuff). You can pull up his blogs. Steve Brown had something about the campaign contribution matter in a letter to the editor. You can find it on this site too.
