PTC announces street sweeping schedule

Parked cars should be moved fourth Sunday of month on certain roads

The city of Peachtree City has launched a new street sweeping program, with monthly sweeping of city-owned parking lots and selected commercial streets beginning this past weekend.

The regular date will the fourth Sunday of each month beginning at 7 p.m., with the potential of continuing through the following Tuesday to complete the list of projects. Last month the City Council approved a $63,626.88 annual contract with Rhino Services of Tyrone and Palmetto for the program, which will be paid for out of the stormwater utility formed last year.

Peachtree City spokesperson Betsy Tyler said, “We want to make sure residents are aware of the schedule to help keep parked cars off the selected streets and parking lots on the evening of the fourth Sunday of each month.”

The new program, which is a requirement of Peachtree City’s Phase II Stormwater Permit, will include monthly sweeping of City-owned parking lots and selected commercial and arterial streets to help keep pollutants out of the water.

Streets on the schedule include Kelly Drive, McIntosh Trail, south Peachtree Parkway, south Stevens Entry, Eastbrook Bend, south Petrol Point, Shakerag Hill, Highway 54, World Drive, Newgate Road, Highway 74 North, McWilliams Drive, Park Place, Northlake Drive, Commerce Drive, Westpark Court, Commerce Court, Clover Reach , Clover Green, Crosstown Court.

In addition to these streets all municipal parking lots will be swept after 7 p.m. in the evenings on those same days. The lots include City Hall and the Library, Picnic Park, McIntosh Trail Recreation Complex, Public Works, Kedron Fieldhouse & Aquatic Center, the Police Department, all four fire stations, Riley Field, Pebblepocket Park, Tennis Center, Clover Reach Park, South 74 Recreation Complex, Luther Glass Park, Battery Way Boat Docks, and the Glenloch Recreation Center.

Anybody know how to light a fire under somebody to get the intersections along HWY 74 thru Tyrone cleaned/swept of all the heavy aggregate thats dropped from the dump trucks that come out of the quarrys? It would have to be shoveled up though. I have tried calling the GA DOT which is no help. You would think the Tyrone police would be interested in stopping the trucks that are not completely broomed off when leaving the quarrys.

You've got to call city hall at 770-487-4038. Good luck dealing with that bunch.
