City waiting on county for sewer agreement

Senoia officials may have a better idea about the expansion of their sewer system after next Tuesday’s meeting of the Coweta County Commissioner.

City administrator Richard Ferry said the commissioners are expected to address the issue of forming a partnership with the city on sewer needs.

“We haven’t had an official word on their intentions, so we need to get a final word before we move forward,” he added.

The city had scheduled a meeting Jan.29 to outline a memorandum of understanding with the county to provide sewer capacity, but Ferry said the city decided to wait until the County Commission weighs in on the issue. Senoia officials are looking to complete a deal between the city, Reese Developers and Coweta County that would allocate up to 1 million gallons of sewer capacity to Coweta County.

Since Reese’s McIntosh Village proposal is in the unincorporated county, Coweta County would be a sewer customer of Senoia and allocate the majority of the capacity to Reese.

Senoia is seeking to build the new wastewater treatment plant off Chestlehurst Road, and if negotiations are successful, would petition the EPD for up to a 4 million-gallon treatment facility that would empty into Line Creek below the planned Lake McIntosh.

McIntosh Village’s plans call for more than 3,000 residences and over 700,000 square feet of retail and office space. The village will be on the Coweta side of an extended TDK Boulevard at McIntosh Trail.

The cost for the new sewer plant could run up to $16 million, and Reese has pledged $6 million to the city of Senoia for its share of the treatment capacity.

Senoia officials are hopeful that Reese will contribute up to $8 million because of the land acquisition costs and costs associated with running an interceptor line to the project.

Four million gallons of sewer will create a lot of houses. This along with TDK are a bad omen for our future. I don't like the commute to work as it is. God only knows what's it's going to be like with the Coweta explosion.
