Wildcats a close second at state duals

The Whitewater wrestling team, currently ranked third in AAAA according to the most recent GaSports.com coaches poll, placed second in the state dual meet over the weekend. The Wildcats, coached by Mickey Statham, started with a 53-21 win over Glynn Academy and followed it with wins over Woodland, 36-33 and Lakeview, 33-27 before falling to Stockbridge 31-29 in the finals.

Starr’s Mill, currently ranked seventh in AAAA, defeated Effingham County 39-32 but fell to Eastside in the quarterfinals 44-20. In the consolation round, the Panthers, coached by Burt Waller, defeated Southwest DeKalb 40-33.

Whitewater will join the McIntosh wrestling team in competing at the Crossbone Classic at East Paulding High School this weekend.

Congratulations on the WHS wrestlers for their strong finish in the state duals. Good luck to all our schools as the season continues, good showing for our county!
