I was born in Memphis, Tn and lived there for 33 years until I moved down here. I can pretty well tell you that racism is absolutely rampant there, on BOTH sides. I have been on the receiving end of racism countless times from blacks there. Sometimes I think it's gotten better, but then other times not. So, the Black Caucus doesn't want Cohen in b/c he's white? No surprise. Blacks electing blacks because they're black instead of qualified is a destructive policy. And this is the policy that's driving Memphis into the ground- Mayor Herenton has made a mess of things, and now Memphis has one of the highest crime rates in the country. Thugs on the rise and cops on the decline because the city is broke- that's why I moved here. Now I don't have to worry near as much about bullets coming through my house. I'm not racist, I'm just calling it how it is.

I'm sure this dustup will get significant play on hate radio and Faux News. Reverse racism, or even the perception of reverse racism, plays well with their core audiences.

Personally, I think that a white man attempting to join a black support organization is along the same lines as an 8 year old boy trying to join the local Brownie troop. There's nothing to legally stop either of them, but that doesn't make it necessarily the right thing to do.

This is the most unbelievable thing I have ever heard. I thought seperate but equal was illegal?? Can you imagine this being an all white club?
