Fayette forced to pay for Coweta’s growth

I just read the article in The Peachtree Citizen about the road extension to Coweta County and the fact that GRTA requires that the TDK Extension bridge be at least four lanes wide. I also read the letter to the editor to Gov. Perdue.

I have a few items for consideration.

Nothing I have ever heard about Gov. Perdue would lead me to believe that he would do anything except be on the side of the developers. If he mobilizes to help PTC then I will be very pleasantly surprised.

My feeling is that if PTC wants a fair shake in this deal then PTC will need to mobilize efforts to save itself.

I recall the recent elections where Mayor Brown was roundly criticized by the citizenry, maybe rightly so. It seems Mr. Logsdon would restore civility in the mayor’s office and PTC would regain harmony with its neighbors in the county and surrounding area.

Well, I think this is exactly what is happening. We are harmonizing as the people of PTC are asked to bend over and take it on the chin. Unfortunately I think that what the situation calls for is a junk yard dog (Mr. Brown?).

I hesitate to ask, where was Logsdon when the railroad decided unilaterally to run the extra lane through the heart of PTC? We needed strong leadership then as well.

PTC is off the beaten path. People move here for quality of life. That quality of life is eroding at a faster and faster pace because the heart and conscience of the town is being paved over.

I agree with the commentators in their letter to the governor. However, they should implore people to contact state representatives and county officials in order to influence the system. Also, consider, who is bigger than the GRTA? The FAA. (If the project is delayed past Oct 2009, the land reverts to some other purpose.) Has the FAA fully evaluated the proposed changes?

What I am concerned about is [what] impact of a larger scale development next to the airport will have on a commercial aviation facility. What is the long-term impact on the ability of the airport to service the local area?

Finally, Mayor Logsdon, the often quoted Thomas Paine said, “The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it NOW deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.”

What say you on this matter? Be you a sunshine mayor? Or in a few years’ time will all of the citizens of PTC owe you their heartfelt thanks and respect?

Let us harness the influences of development, to establish, in our town, the kind of environment that they are artificially trying to create at Serenbe in [South Fulton]. We have the real deal here. Let us fight to preserve it.

Ring road and a new town center: That is what PTC needs. Not a four-lane TDK Extension, not an expansion of Crosstown Road.

I think Coweta needs to fund their own way to I-85. And they need to do it now.

Plenty of us here in Coweta don't like it either! pg

Did you really say that Mr. Reefe?
Ring road and a new town center: That is what PTC needs. Huh?

First of all the TDK extension from Coweta to Crosstown to Parkway to Bernard to Goza which will eventually get to I-75 is the closest thing to a ring road we will ever see. What it will be is a southern by-pass for PTC, Fayetteville and Jonesboro. It will actually help traffic on 54, but no one is ready to believe that.

The town center idea was rejected about 40 years ago and thankfully hasn't been brought up again. Villages and dispersal of retail and the traffic that goes with it is the greatest thing about this city except the cart paths. If we had one village center it would be 3 times the size of Kedron Village and probably be located at 54/74. How would that work?

Please Mr. Reffe, no amatuer planners needed at this point.

Sure, PTC needs a new commercial development just as Fayetteville needs the Onyxx to re-open. The quagmire at the intersections of 54/74 will only get worse; why not a back entrance behind the Wal-Mart some where?

Have you driven on 54 between PTC and Fayetteville lately? Everything is for sale or sold now, it won't be long before you will not be able to distinguish where F'Ville ends and PTC starts.
