Nothing will change here.
The police will never patrol the cart paths, unless the Sugarloaf madams streak nude down the paths. That would be our only hope, that or Starbucks opening a store in the middle of the nature preserve.

Even if they did hire more cops, they will never be on the paths. Instead of having 1 or 2 cops protecting the bank next to Zaxbys, they would have 3.

Be careful, look out for yourself, you are on your own.

It used to really irritate me, but now I have different take on it. If you can't beat them, join them. I basically do whatever I want to now......What are they going to do.... start patrolling the cart paths and neighborhoods? Ohhh I'm sooooo scaaaarrrrrred.

What got in to you? Usually you're somewhat of a reasonable voice, but that rant was just off base. I've personally heard the Chief of Police in council meetings ask for more officers to patrol cart paths. The council of course didn't even give him what he asked for to cover the increased business growth and such though - obviously not enough to patrol the many miles of carth path we have here. I think you're attacking the wrong group.

By the way, you apparently know how hiring off duty officers works, so why would you not understand that the bank next to Zaxby's is hiring off duty officers (i.e. nothing to do with the police department's staffing)?

I know chief Murray has asked for more help, they(our low-life city council) never give him what he needs. I also know that by cutting their pay it has definitly been a demotivating force for them. Also because of the pay cuts(which is what it is when you don't get a cost of living raise, and you have to pay more of your health insurance coverage)I have heard that we have lost 4 officers. I don't know if that is just urban myth or not.

Yes sadly I do know how it works with hiring an off duty cop. I wasn't sure if that was what was going on or not. I feel better now that I know they(the bank) are paying the same as I am.

It is very frustrating to see crime by teens go up, and almost no action by the police other than a collective yawn.

I wish they would stop luring sex offenders here for awhile, and start a sweep of the cart paths once in awhile.

I do have respect for them, and I know they are very short-staffed compared to other agencies.

The last incident that happened to my property I handled myself, beacuse I knew it would take at least 3mins. for them to get here, and this particular situation was over in about 1min. I either made the situation worse or I made it better. I definitly took the little brats by surprise, and I haven't seen their unmarked 6person dark forest green club car since. Let's hope it stays that way.

The kids here are not afraid of the police here and they have no respect for them. They are afraid of the sheriff's dept., so I'll keep paying for help.

There is one way to get the paths patrolled. Hire off-duty cops to do it for the extra money. They will even protect strip joints for that, but not otherwise.
We could take up a collection and pay that.

PTC police are reluctant to let there guys work for private citizens.

Call the sheriff's dept. Depending on how deep your pockets are your home can be protected when you aren't there.

As for the paths, everyone is soooo apathetic here it would be hard to find anyone to go in on it.

My home is protected when I'm not there.

We are already paying enough taxes that there *should* be enough cops on duty so that some can be constantly patrolling the cartpaths. However, our city council and mayor do not think public safety is an area they need to focus on, and choose to spend the money elsewhere.

bpr, I got this off of PTCPD's website in reference to kids driving golf carts:

• Any person age 16 and older, unless they have had their driver’s license suspended or revoked by the state.
• Fifteen-year-olds with no license or learner’s permit, as long as they are accompanied by a licensed 18-year-old, parent, grandparent, or legal guardian;
• Fifteen-year-olds with a valid learner’s permit can drive solo or under the above conditions, or accompanied by up to one other unrelated person at least 15 years old, or up to three immediate family members.
• 12, 13 and 14-year olds when accompanied in the front seat by a parent, grandparent or legal guardian.
NOTE: No one under the age of 12 may operate a cart. Low Speed Vehicles such as the GEM car still require a valid driver’s license for operation.

What does respect mean to you. This seems to be lacking in our world.
