Brown’s Ga. Trend award resulted from a ‘sham’

If you go on to Steve Brown’s Web site, you will find among a section he calls Steve’s bio. It tells a good bit of information about Brown and includes a couple of accolades he is evidently proud of.

I’ll let you in on a little secret. At least one of them is a total sham.

Not long after Steve Brown got elected, he showed up at my doorstep unannounced with a “favor” to ask me. It seemed that Brown had gotten wind of Georgia Trend Magazine’s “40 under 40” campaign in which certain movers and shakers under 40 years old are nominated for being recognized as the up and coming leaders in the state.

If you guessed that Brown asked me to write something to the magazine nominating him, you’re close but you’re wrong. It’s worse.

Steve Brown actually showed up with a nomination for himself for this accolade that he himself penned.

Yes, the not so noble “I love being your mayor” Steve Brown was — imagine this — busy drumming up support for himself even way back then.

He tried to beat the system, which was intended for genuine up and coming leaders of Georgia to be nominated as such by others who felt they were worthy of such distinguished recognition. He just didn’t think he’d ever get caught.

So Brown asked me to put my name on his letter and fax it to Georgia Trend magazine on my home fax machine. At the time, I said, “Oh, what the heck,” and sent it in for him.

Of course, this was a dumb mistake on my part, and I regret going along with the sham, but at the time I was fooled by Brown, like a lot of other people have been since then.

In light of the importance of the impending mayor runoff election on Dec. 6, I thought it was probably high time this dirty little secret came out from hiding.

This kind of underhanded self serving act speaks volumes about Brown’s credibility or lack thereof in his re-election bid. I urge you to turn away an ethically challenged Steve Brown on Dec. 6 and help bring in real leadership and real honesty in the mayor’s office.

Dan, None if this is really a surprise to anyone who has watched Brown operate in public, but my question is why did it take you so long to figure out what a phony he is? The big warning should have been when he (you all) went against the advice of the city attorney and voted to impose a moratorium on construction - in his very first meeting!. Did you vote for that? Then the homebuilders assn. sued and Judge Pappy took about 10 minutes to figure out what you guys did was illegal.

Robert, I admit that it took me longer than it should have to realize what a phony Brown is, but in answer to your question, go back to the city council minutes of the special called meeting of January 10, 2002. I was the only member of council that voted AGAINST the moratorium on construction. It passed 4-1 anyhow.

Perhaps that was indeed my day of enlightenment.

So....I was just going to step out of the fray, then I read this.

If this is true, and I have no reason to believe it's not, man. Steve needs some help. Let's let him get it - I'm sure an in-patient program in Atlanta is what he needs. Of course, he'll have to live there, so I guess he can't be our mayor.

Steve Brown loves being Steve Brown, and that's about it.

OK, unless something egregious comes out...enjoy your blogging; I'm gone.

You are quite correct, Idontknow. Brown (just like his soul mate PT Barnum) never met any kind of publicity he didn't like, no matter how shameful the subject matter. Oh, this story is quite true. What I wonder about, of course, are the countless other shams Brown has managed to conduct while we assumed honor and integrity were actually involved---how shallow and foolish of us to believe anything the guy says.

Your posts are interesting and fun to read, so don't go away. If you must go, go with the knowledge Brown is a fraud and help elect Logsdon on Dec. 6.

Dan Tennant getting duped is not news. As one of his fellow council people said "He is asleep at the switch." Go back to the political graveyard, Dan.

Bob, you are the biggest political wannabe that ever existed! You know that you wouldn't have an ice cube's chance in hell of ever being elected to as much as a dog catcher, but you are the first one to criticize those that actually get in the game and make a difference.

Hate it break it to you Bob Kraft, but nobody listens to you because you a constant whiner and complainer who never had the courage to run for anything except the bathroom when you overindulged in hate mail.

I'd much rather be in the "political graveyard" than never to have existed at all Bob. I'm gone for now, but you never were.

Try breaking a wishbone at your Thanksgiving Dinner and maybe for once you won't once again be on the short end on the bone of courage.
