What does it tell us when the leading vote getter in an influence poll has only been in office for two weeks and hasn't done a thing?

Vote Republican

Unfortunately, I had to vote "other" because I only know some of the candidates and to exclude those I don't know would be unfair. However, if another category were listed; i.e. "The Citizens" I would vote for them. However, there is a problem here, too. Most citizens do not get involved! Most don't care what is happening two blocks from their home. If it doesn't affect them personally, it is of no concern!
Citizens - get involved! Attend your local council or commission meetings. Speak up! Let your elected officials know that you cherish your life in Fayette County as it is. We need no more development or more stream and water supply pollution, tree cuttings, crowded schools, and overcrowded streets and highways.
Get involved in your local elections and get to know the people who will be making decisions that affect your life. A small effort now will pay off in your future and in your children's future.

One thousand citizens could attend several meetings and it would be useless unless the members knew who you were and how influential you were. Those sort of plans aren't made at a meeting and no votes are changed due to attendance.
If a bunch does go, then it is tabled temporarily, or until few are there.
You must elect people you can trust is the only way. We are a representative government, not democratic.

Good input! Unfortunately, you are right! The Tyrone Mayor broke a tie in council and voted for 1/2 acre housing (for Weiland)despite recent ordinances to restrict building to 1 acre lots. The uproar from a full house was deafening. And then, it was reported, she cried after the meeting. Since then, she has had to vote to break Council ties 10 times. At least half of the Tyrone Council recognizes and supports the citizens. So, who is wagging who's tail? The developers! But, how do you get people involved? How do you get the citizens to understand that most development is detremental to their way of life? There are a few dedicated persons who will continue to fight for what is seen as right. Can we get more involved? I hope so!

I have attended city council meetings for years. I have been at that microphone many, many times.

Believe me, one or two people speaking out doesn't do any good.

Most people are complacent, they don't care unless it's in their backyard.

When they finally realize it will affect them too, it's too late.

I know Dennis Davenport. He is a very nice man. We moved to Fayetteville a little over a year ago. His daughter met my daughter. They are a very nice and up-standing family. Is there a reason that this community likes to posts such negative things. What if someone's child reads what you may say about thier parent? It is pathitic.... Please think about others......

I think if you look over the list of people, you would be hard pressed to find an impressive figure in the bunch. The Sheriff has had his problems come out of the closet recently.

Herb Frady has been asleep for the last ten years. As for Eric Maxwell and Jack Smith, they were just sworn in last week. Maxwell thought Frady would have made a great chairman, so forget Maxwell.

John DeCotis works for the FCBOE and the board calls the shots. Besides, the last redistricting was the wierd looking at best.

Kenneth Steele wants to annex Highway 54 all the way to Peachtree City. Who in the heck is Dennis Davenport anyway?

Harold Logsdon has done more damage than a hurricane.

Hands down, Randall will be the most influential. Already his support of Eric got rid of Dunn and whatshername. His delayed retirement and Bruce's demise will put him in the spotlight several times in 2007.

Effective goes to Jack Smith who will work quietly behind the scenes to govern Fayette County without being a windbag. Nice change from last several years.

I'll be candid. Jack Smith didn't do a lot of campaigning in my circles. So, I have zero information about him. Now, that's not to say he isn't a nice fellah; he could be the best neighbor a person could ever want. And I'm giving him and Maxwell some time to show me who they are there to serve. (People here have written some things that will become evident -- or not -- in a very short time, I suspect.) However, I am worried that someone about whom I never got much information is now, not just a commissioner but the chair of the board of commissioners.

Again, he could be a great guy but what do you know about him that makes you so confident that he's the right "top dog" for this county?

Fayette County without a windbag. Nice change.

Well ok... I robbed from two sentences and left out a word. It still sounds nice though doesn't it? Smiling

wield influence in 2007? Gimme a break, he sure as heck hasn't influenced Superior Court Judge William Ison, or tonto707, for that matter.

Cal, or whoever frames these polls, let's get real, o k?

Logsdon having influence over anything would be hard to believe. The man needs to take a 4th grade reading course. I have heard him numerous time trying to read and Forrest Gump could do a better job. I hope he never has to read anything in front of a group of other then the hate Brown crowd, because we will all look like a bunch of uneducated dump butts. O my God we have elected Gomer Pyle II.

Gomer Pyle would be an improvement.

...your own post had some spelling issues, I still must agree with you on Logsdon's reading ability. Same goes for his public speaking. I had the opportunity to hear him do both very recently (for the first time) and was shocked. Besides not being able to read his own proclamation, he is a mumbler. A good public speaker should be able to annunciate (sp?), reading or not.

I just got to thinking about this. Who really benefited from the $1 mil + sellement? PNB is part of a gazillion Synovus bank. They could have written it off to a mistake by the dead guy.
Well, anyway, Harold has only done what he said he would do. Settle and Build. Why isn't Steve on this list?

Leave me out of it. I'm no Dennis supporter. He needs to go along with his employer McNally.

The others I understand, but Dennis Davenport? Who is he and why is on this list?

Dennis Davenport is the McNally attorney who handles the county's litigation. My sidekick (subordinate) tonto707 is Dan Lakly, who is sore he wasn't considered as influential enough to be in the poll list.
