Re: retraction request (Robert Alexander Reed, 107 Heritage Way, Peachtree City, Ga.).

Mr. Robert Alexander Reed was originally stopped by Peachtree City Police Department on Feb. 10, 2005, for possession of marijuana (he was not arrested at that time).

He was arrested by Peachtree City Police Department on April 12, 2005, for that same incident and brought to jail, was processed and released on bond April 12, 2005. His prints were sent to GBI, but for some reason that arrest did not make it into GCIC and we do not know why.

Mr. Reed went to court on the same arrest and was given probation. He later violated that probation and was sentenced to 217 days in jail. That sentence date was June 8, 2006.

During the course of his jail time the Solicitor’s Office notified us that his original arrest in February 2005 has never made into GCIC and we were asked to print him and resubmit to GCIC which we did. It was at this time that the press release was made up from the daily fingerprint cards and showed Reed as having been arrested on the marijuana charge.

Mr. Reed’s mother claims that he was shown as having been arrested twice this year for this charge, and after reviewing The Citizen archives, I concur with her claim. However, Mrs. Reed was told that the reason her son showed as being arrested in June was because the February 2005 arrest was not on his criminal record and that the jail has reprinted him at the request of the Solicitor.

Fayetteville, Ga.

Thank you and your deputy's for risking your lives for all the citizens of Fayette County.
My son was a witness to a incident this morning.
I hope you caught the maniac going east on 54 west.
I pray none of you were hurt.
God Bless

Sheriff Johnson, thank you for your letter. I do not know this person, nor did I pay any attention to his arrest. Even not knowing him, I appreciate that you were willing to take the time to investigate this, and to write the retraction.
