It would make more sense for the Fayetteville pet limit to be based on weight than number. Think about it. Would you rather live next door to four cats or three Rottweilers?

----------------------------------------------------------------

Well, our congratulations go to Direct PAC. They actually found someone stupid enough to justify Harold Logsdon’s actions who would sign the bottom of the letter. Phil Boswell obviously wasn’t a history major. Thank God he wasn’t a successful politician either. What did they promise Boswell for playing the fool? Maybe to support him in the election against Councilwoman Rutherford?

----------------------------------------------------------------

My wife made an interesting observation last week about the development authority scandal. She noticed that the old development authority chumps weren’t attempting to defend their innocence. Probably afraid of criminal prosecution. The Direct PAC has gone back to back-room dealing on TDK and other things. The only effort they could muster was a poorly crafted historical analysis from Mr. Boswell. By the way, Hamilton didn’t come up with the “city on the hill” reference, and it originates in the Biblical text. Also, by the way, Alexander Hamilton was urging the payment of a legitimate debt that funded the Revolutionary War, not crooked dealings like the development authority. Hamilton probably wouldn’t have favored the taxpayers doling out for a tennis center and an amphitheater twice like we have to do either. Even Councilwoman Rutherford insisted the deal was pure bunk. However, we have to remember that Mrs. Rutherford had the facts. Mr. Boswell, on the other hand, listed no facts, but he did supply a great deal of hot air and wasted newsprint.

----------------------------------------------------------------

With the Christmas season upon us, we definitely would appreciate a wish list from Mayor Logsdon and Reese Developers. To make McIntrash Trail Village a success for these people and to line their pockets with Xmas spirit (cash), we need to know exactly how much money we need to raise, to donate, and to set aside for tax increases. From the traffic consultant group commissioned by the developer (and I would assume they are on the conservative side when it comes to traffic projections), we (that is PTC) need to add only a dozen lanes at three intersections. Wow! What a deal! I was thinking we would have to destroy all the trees and widen the road from 54/74 to Interstate 85. Adding a few lanes seems a lot cheaper that all this other stuff. Now our illustrious Mayor Logsdon recently said that the TDK Bridge will remain two lanes. We need to widen this to four lanes so your developer and our neighbors from Coweta County are not offended by your lack of hospitality and open wallet policy. Just where is your Christmas spirit? And why stop at TDK? I’m 100 percent sure you have the connections to develop totally wasted open space like the Baseball-Softball Complex, Meade Fields, Braelinn Park and Glenloch Park. But why stop there? Let’s drain Lake Peachtree! Better yet, why not sell City Hall? You can crawl into bed with the developers (oh, you already have). Come on, Harold. Don’t be a scrooge now.

----------------------------------------------------------------

As to the TDK bridge, do you honestly think this is going to remain two lanes? The GRTA issued a requirement that the TDK Extension bridge over the creek must be built to handle four lanes of traffic. Lets see, that’s four lanes into two. Can you say bottleneck? Or is that major bottleneck? Where is this traffic going to? Well, I’d probably head up Dividend Drive and cross over at Kelly Drive or Paschall Road. Since the bridge WILL remain two lanes (another lie), the neighborly thing to do is to widen Dividend, Kelly and Paschall. Maybe it’s cheaper to build a new bridge at Paschall or Kelly than to widen the bridge at TDK. Regardless, I’m sure the mayor has all the numbers, and the ability to rearrange them as he sees fit. Since the mayor is in the giving mood (with our money), let’s straighten out and widen Peachtree Parkway. Its far too windy, too slow, and too many trees. This would be a great bypass around the 54/74 intersection, and would show the people of PTC that the mayor is also working in our interest as well.

----------------------------------------------------------------

They say there are no funds available to widen Ga. Highway 154 in Coweta County. Is this going to stop the project? The politicians in Coweta will be no different then their counterparts in PTC, and especially our one-term mayor (getting the hint). Coweta County has nothing to lose in this project and everything to gain the all-mighty tax dollar. And besides, we are financing it! The 154 corridor is the next 34/54. And, how many years did it take to upgrade that mess? If I were Mayor Logsdon, I would start naming things for myself now. You will be history soon. The destruction you left behind will be your legacy. I hope you’re proud of it. How did we allow this mayor and his cronies to destroy such a beautiful place?

----------------------------------------------------------------

The mayor and council have got to be totally crazy to build a road that will eventually shut down our other streets. I can’t help wonder what is motivating such an action. They are going to bleed us to death.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Has Steve Brown not been completely vindicated on his “alarmist position” on the TDK road or what? If anybody thinks Joel Cowan, Fred Brown or Bob Lenox was looking out for the best interests of the citizens, think again. The future traffic volumes are doubling off the road. They were leading us straight for disaster.

----------------------------------------------------------------

I applaud the police for standing up to Mayor Harold Logsdon. The mayor is the exact opposite of good leadership. The sheer arrogance of the mayor wanting to double his own salary while he asks the people who actually work hard for the city to take pay cuts is totally ludicrous. The developer crowd profits and the people who protect us are asked to suffer. We are a tribe without a chief. This has been a year filled with misery.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like Peachtree City is spinning out of control?

----------------------------------------------------------------

Judy Rutherford displayed some of the most barbaric behavior I have ever witnessed by a politician. She berated a nice gentleman in the audience with nasty language and finger wagging for chuckling at a stupid comment she made. This city council has almost no respect for the general public. Rutherford is the worst of them all with her crude remarks. Get the city government out of the sewer and spare us the burden of TDK.

I moved to Fayetteville in the mid 1980s with my wife and dog. We built a home and started a family in what we thought to be “God’s Country.” Some of the best schools in the state, plenty of green space, clean air, little traffic, virtually no crime, and a lot of friendly people. I remember hearing in the ‘90s that Fayette County enjoyed the ranking of the highest income per household in the state. We had it all including the best politicians money could buy and just look at the job they have done for us. This county is a train wreck looking for a place to happen. And now I see our or should I say their good fortune is spreading to our neighbors in PTC soon to be known as Peachdale City. You don’t have the water to wash your car at home but we are adding 3,000 new homes. Overcrowded schools — that’s what they make trailers for. Bumper to bumper traffic — that’s what MARTA is for, and that’s probably a lot closer that any of us want to think about. And all the new home invasions and car break-ins at the Money Pitvillian: it just keeps getting better. Looks like all the reasons I moved here 20 years ago are gone. Fayettedale, I mean Fayetteville, just ain’t what she used to be; so I will try and find “God’s Country” again. Next time I will try and get the cheaper, inexperienced politicians elected. We would be a lot better off if they did absolutely nothing and perhaps nothing will change.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Oops! Last week I suggested that the area behind the Peachtree City Wal-Mart be rezoned for business office use rather than residential. But I identified the wrong credit union building as an example of great architecture. I should have said The Southern Federal Credit Union in Fayetteville sets the standard for timeless design of an office building.

----------------------------------------------------------------

To the Southside school band directors: Please stop herding your students’ parents into jam-packed, over-heated gymnasiums or cafeterias to hear their children play. By crowding every band student and their parents into one venue you have taken all of the pleasure out of the performances for the children, and those who come to hear them play. I couldn’t see my child from the top row at SMHS’s gym, yet alone hear him. He hated it, his parents hated it, everyone around us hated it. Stop already! You are doing more damage to the band programs than good. We know the older kids play better, that’s the point. We know you are wonderful band directors. Stop tooting your own horns and make band a musical experience the whole community can enjoy, one band at a time.

----------------------------------------------------------------

The parent that wrote the letter about the 5-35 football record at FCHS hit it dead on about Coach Tommy Webb. It is terrible that the young men that play football at FCHS have to be subjected to this coach and several members of his coaching staff. As a parent of a FCHS football player, it was very painful sitting at the games this season and last season. The majority of the players do not even want this man as their head coach anymore. They do not feel he knows what he is doing. Like my son said to me, I don’t understand why our quarterback waits to get the play call after each series; we only have four plays we run every game. Coach Webb knows the parents and the players do not want him as the football coach any longer. We gave him an opportunity to prove himself. We stood behind him a few years ago when a small number of parents wanted him gone, but he has failed miserably to prove that he is a quality high school football coach. Therefore, he should not use his relationship with the principal (good buddy, Dr. Warr), who could care less about the football program, to stay and torture us for another year. Please send Coach Ramsey off with him too. As the defensive coordinator he was horrible with the decisions he made. The offensive coordinator, Coach Duff, send him packing. You have to be able to have more than four plays for an entire football season. In conclusion, I know Webb is saying he has a large group of great athletes that will be seniors next year. Well, Webb said that for this football season, last football season and probably the season before that, and we do not want to hear it anymore. He has had good athletes every season he has been there, and has not played them or he played them in the wrong position. Put a Football Coach Wanted sign in the window of FCHS.

----------------------------------------------------------------

To the coaches of the school wrestling teams: There is a certain wrestler on your team, I won’t name names, that needs a sportsmanship lesson. During the meet on Friday night, we watched this certain player stomp off the mat after a loss, give the opposing team’s coaches a half-hearted handshake, storm from there through the gym while shoving away his own teammates that tried to offer support. If that wasn’t bad enough, he then sat on the floor behind his team’s bench and pouted throughout the rest of the meet, not offering his teammates any encouragement or support. In addition, after the meet ended, while his teammates got in line to shake the opposing team’s hands, he left the gym and missed the after-game huddle, with his mother, who apparently saw nothing wrong with his behavior. Although it may be argued that this wrestler was just having a bad night, I personally have witnessed his same disrespectable behavior the last time our teams competed. It seems that the task of teaching this kid respect has once again landed in the coaches’ laps instead of the parents. Good luck, guys.

Keep up the good work, Rising Starr basketball team (4-0). Way to go, Coach Middlebrooks, let’s take it all the way this year.

In regard to the article written about the poor treatment by a south Fayette high school: Come substitute at Crabapple Lane Elementary. I am a currently a substitute teacher there and have been for three years now. I have consistently been treated well by the principals, administrators and staff. Even though I substitute at least three days a week, I am thanked each time I enter the school. Everyone is very friendly, appreciative, and willing to talk. I believe I have the best job with the Fayette County Board of Education as a substitute teacher.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Sounds like a certain high school in south Fayette County doesn’t want you as a volunteer. Consider spending your time, instead, at a certain south Fayette County elementary school. You will be thanked more often and in more ways than you can imagine. Their logo rhymes with “rocket.”

----------------------------------------------------------------

It’s holiday program time at schools all over Fayette County. Yes, it’s cold outside; perhaps raining. There certainly are a lot of cars. Maybe you’re running late. Or are you just better than everyone else? Regular folks would like to hear from those savvy parents who snag the great parking spots in the car loop, grass, fire lanes, and other no-parking zones. Please tell us, “What are you thinking?”

----------------------------------------------------------------

So, where are all you cops? Hwy. 54 in PTC and Hwy. 34 into Coweta County are horrible. Speeders and tailgaters. Daily multiple cars are traveling at speeds in excess of 70 mph (I am not exaggerating). You cops need to have a 24/7 police presence on these roads. You need to be traveling these roads daily. When I drive to work in the morning I should see you. When I drive home in the evening, I should see you. When I take my kids to soccer, I should see you. When I go to church, I should see you. So should everyone else. If you don’t have a presence, and soon, I am going to turn vigilante. I will take matters into my own hands when someone tailgates me. Fix it, cops! NOW!

----------------------------------------------------------------

Whoa, white van-type vehicle with the Sonny sticker on your right window: you gave me quite a challenge this morning but thanks to the stop sign at Crosstown Road I got 1643 AJL. Once I left the school zone and accelerated to 50 mph but couldn’t catch up to you, my good judgment set in and I slowed down. I’m telling you, PTC Police Department, you are sitting on a gold mine on Peachtree Parkway by the Huddleston school zone. Folks, just keep on passing me. It is a wonderful eye exam.

----------------------------------------------------------------

I have noticed for some time that fast-food restaurant employees are wearing rubber gloves when handling unwrapped/exposed doughnuts by hand to protect the public from germs and dirt, which I feel is a very responsible and courteous thing to do. That sense of security was quickly dashed when the person took the $20 bill from my hand and made change in the register still wearing the same gloves. Then onto the next customer. Money is the “root of all evil” and the dirtiest thing on the planet. Most toilet seats have fewer germs than money. Where is the Health Department or management or, better yet, common sense? It’s time to wake up and smell that expensive coffee.

----------------------------------------------------------------

At the rate we’re going there will soon be a nail salon for every county resident.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you, Christmas Shop, for opening an affordable shop where talented local artists, crafts persons and collectors may sell their items year round. We are encouraged to shop locally but no local store is interested in carrying items made by local people. The Shakerag is expensive and caters to out of town artists. The Christmas Shop is in PTC, Hwy. 74 south, building next to Gill-Roy’s Hardware, open ‘til 7 p.m.

----------------------------------------------------------------

To the person who doesn’t understand the black community, it’s easy. If a black person is killed by a white person or a police officer of any race, it’s a big deal. The other 99 percent of murder victims who are killed by out-of-control young black males, they don’t matter. Understand now?

----------------------------------------------------------------

My comments are directed to the person who complained about landlords renting to illegal immigrants and getting richer. I want to know how you conducted your research to make such statements. You did not ask me, and I rent to Mexicans. The same family has rented for over four years. They take care of the property, pay on time and the police have never had to go there. Some family moved in with them, but they do not exceed the number of persons allowed per number of bedrooms. The adults are gainfully employed. I am sure the persons who signed the lease are here legally. Actually, I undercharge for the property. The tenants before them were Georgia natives. Checks bounced, property was not cared for, tenant broke lease, police went numerous times to residence and there were rumors of drug involvement. Your solution to have laws to prevent me and others from renting to illegal immigrants is a Band-aid solution for an arterial wound caused by our government. For years the government has done nothing, and now we have these easy solutions. To quote H.L. Mencken: There is always an easy solution to every human problem — neat, plausible, and wrong.

----------------------------------------------------------------

“Splitting families” is a sham argument against enforcing immigration employment laws. We routinely “split families” when we send parents to prison. Citizens are separated from their families for breaking the law. We’re not even talking about sending illegals to prison, just back to their own country. Until their country is labeled as “Worse Than Prison,” this argument holds no water.

----------------------------------------------------------------

It IS illegal to seek a better life if you break the law to do it. That’s true of one bank robber and equally true of all of those corrupt law-breaking employers who seek a more prosperous life through hiring “cheap” illegal alien workers.

----------------------------------------------------------------

If today’s newsmen were working in 1776, would we see this headline? “General Washington, we’re tired of your defeats. What is your exit strategy from what is obviously a losing battle?”

What are the specifics of "they do not exceed the number of persons allowed per number of bedrooms" response about landlords renting to illegal immigrants? Does the same apply to homeowners?

The residents in a five bedroom house in our neighborhood:
nine school-aged children; two, if not three, adult females; at least four adult males.

I agree, this is an outrage... I mean I have to drive to and from work every day without my own personal cop stopping anybody who pisses me off in traffic. I mean geez, I live in Peachtree City - that should be a given. I know they aren't doing anything else. They're probably just harassing teenagers or pulling over other relatives of bladderq. I even voted for Mayor Logdson, so we could funnel more money into recreation services - since that's the real reason we have a low crime rate in Peachtree City (if you didn't know that make sure to read his interview from last week in Today in Peachtree City). I also made sure to support all of our other Pro-TDK councilmen, so that way we can ensure a better traffic condition in the city. Even further than that, I took special care to vote for Ed Boone - so that I could be sure there's always a voice of reason there to vote against any budget plan that includes more cops - I mean obviously a growing city with increasingly severe crime and absurd traffic problems would not be helped by that sort of nonsense. Most of all though, I backed the continued employment of good ol' Bernie McMullen - I figured he would have a completely unbiased, and probably increased, appreciation for traffic safety problems. I'm sure he's all for more cops patrolling for traffic violators. Lastly, I make sure not to go to any of those council meetings and tell them what I think about this as a voter - I wouldn't want to impose.
I just don't understand why we'd have these problems. I'm a model Peachtree City Citizen doing all the things I should... and now I'm even going to complain about it. What could possibly be wrong here?

Coweta County could care less about Hwy 34 near the Fayette County line. They don't even have enough officers to work their own traffic accidents in the county (Ga. State Patrol does that, & there are usually only 3 of them for the entire county), much less patrol the far reaches.

PCPD would be there more, if they weren't having to respond to so many other calls, like domestic situations (2 officers go), 911 hang-ups (an officer always goes to make sure the caller is okay), unruly kids (lots of that type of call in PTC), suspicious persons (usually someone selling something, with a permit... or that heinous crime of being non-white and walking down the street in PTC), intrusion alarms (when your alarm goes off -- often falsely -- and the alarm co calls for a police response, 2 PTC officers go). Then there are neighborhood and business patrols. Regular traffic patrols go on, too, of course... PCPD catches the most DUIs of any other agency in the county. So they *are* watching. They *are* there. But if you want them to be there 24/7, you need to be demanding more officers be hired (something that is greatly needed, anyways).

Are you nuts? Hire more officers when we have developers and bankers with bad business decisions to bail out?

With the response senarios you laid out just how many officers are on call at any given time? Another question is how much does it cost to fund an officer annually? Salary, car, equipment, insurance, training. 80K - 100K annually? I'd be curious to know.

With the money extorted from PTC on the tennis center it seems like 5 or 6 officers could have been hired for over a five year period. Hmmmmm...public safety or developer bailout?

Thanks as usual for a look at what's happening with our guys in blue that most of us don't get a chance to see.

With the response scenarios you laid out just how many officers are on call at any given time?

I can't answer your question about costs, but this one I can.

There are typically 4-7 officers on a 10 hour shift, with 6 being the most common right now. That includes the Sgt. & the Lt., who are also out on the road and respond to calls if needed. The shifts overlap each other by about 3 hours, at the 3 busiest times of the day, so for 9 hours each day there are around 12 officers on duty. (But, because it is the busiest time of the day for calls, they still don't get to go out and patrol the cart paths like is needed).

It is very obvious what the priorities are of our mayor and city council. Too bad it is not public safety.

I was offered a chance to ride along with a cop. I was shocked, this definitly isn't Mayberry. If you have any cop friends git real it will be an eye opener for you.

I would recommend you invest in a police scanner. Radio Shack has a good one. You can get the frequencies online. You will be shocked I can assure you.

Anyone can request to do a ride-along, and I would encourage you to do so.
