Coweta wrestlers fare well at South Metro and county duals, McIntosh wins two more matchesFri, 12/15/2006 - 3:16pm

Wrestlers from East Coweta High School and Northgate have performed very well over the last week. Seven wrestlers from those two schools placed at the South Metro Invitational last weekend and nine of them won county titles at this week’s Coweta County Duals Championships. • 112 - Northgate’s Keith Woolard, sixth place • 119 - Paul Sanford (outstanding lightweight wrestler) • 125 - Northgate’s Josh Crager, third place • 130 - East Coweta’s Dwayne Anglin, fourth place • 140 - Northgate’s Scott Ricker, second place • 189 - East Coweta’s Christian Flavin, first place • 215 - East Coweta’s Ben Gibson, sixth place Overall, Northgate placed sixth with 116 points and East Coweta placed 11th with 97 points. Results from schools in Fayette County made the Wednesday edition of The Citizen and are on-line at ww.thecitizen.com. On Tuesday, Northgate won the overall meet by defeating Newnan 51-30 and East Coweta 42-36. East Coweta beat Newnan 54-27. • 103 - Northgate’s David Sabot The McIntosh Wrestlers traveled to Newton County on Wednesday and came home with two impressive wins. The Chiefs beat Cross Keys in the opening match 55-21 and then overwhelmed Alcovy 51-30 in the night cap. Eight Chief wrestlers finished the night with two wins and no losses; Matt Lein at 112 lbs, Jarrod Chamblee, 119 lbs, Jim Murrell, 130 lbs, Jessy Toscanno, 135 lbs, Carl Scheumann, 140 lbs, Erik Willanzheimer, 189 lbs, Matt Carroll, 215 lbs and Sean Carney, 275 lbs. Matt Tinker at 103 lbs, Josh McLendon, 125 lbs, Andrew Graham, 125 lbs and Jacob Worthington 171 lbs each had one win and one loss. Of the 28 individual bouts over the two matches the Chiefs won 14 by pin. “We have just come through a very tough part of our schedule and we are battling a few nagging injuries that had a couple of wrestlers out of our line-up,” said Coach Nick Bellantoni. “This gave us the chance to build-up the match experience of a few other wrestlers that will serve us well as we get deeper into the season.” |
