Answer To FCHS Football Situation

I also agree until new decisions are made Fayette County High School Footbal Program will go down the drain. It does not take a rocket scientist to see the problem. It does not stop with the coaches, uninvolved parents, administration and the community. People in the community are proud of their school when they have a winning record. First FCHS Football Administration has to support the team. It's not all about having fun. It is about being able to leave the school and play at a higher level. Many people in the area who have children that graduated from FCHS would rather support White Water or Starr's Mill. These schools prepare their young men to carry on their school name. You are not a shame to wear your school colors or your schools name. Sports scholarships are designed for those that can perform pass the high school level. Okay Coaches and administration let's help these boys to move on to college. Let's be like the Marines, let the boys be all they can be. You will get more support and involvement when you become involved yourself. Community let's continue to call your local school. Remember you pay taxes even if you do not have a child in the Fayette County School System. Let's be proud of Fayetteville and proud of Fayette County High School. Just like the band is in the paper weekly, let's get the Football Players in the paper on a positive note. Let's stop letting everyone bet against the school and support our team. FCHS stop letting other coaches compliment your boys. Let's not have another losing season. Work with your community, that's what we are here for. Community you have a say so in what goes on. Nice will not get you to the playoffs and administration knows what that mean. Someone please help?

There are so many things that need to be looked at regarding this football program. The top of the list is the head coach, and what he offers his players.

Well, I know what he does not offer:
1. Highlight tapes to be used for recruiting
2. Knowledge of the game and the skills to teach the various positions
3. Assistance in contacting college coaches to draw attention to his players
4. True strength and conditioning program for his players
5. Good communication with his players and their parents
6. The ability to motivate his players
7. Information on campus and combines players should attend in the summer to enhance their visibilty to college coaches
8. Basic foundation of the game and how to play it
9. An unbias decision as to what players step on the field on Friday night
10. Ability to work with trainers and certified athletic specialty groups to develop speed, strength, and agility of his players
11. And plain old common sense on Friday night

This program needs help. Too much talent is being wasted. Funding is being affected by the poor multiple seasons. Disharmony among players and parents which has lead to, unfortunately, physical fights in the stands. Th administration needs to make a change that will work to develop the football program.

Please note, I do not believe there is any coach on this staff that could be a good head coach for the football team. The administrators need to pull from the outside.

I agree with you. (you seem to have more inside information) Please forward your comments to the Fayette County Athletic Director. His name is C. W. Campbell.

I believe some of the problems start at FM, the feeder school. I know it does with the softball program. FCHS didn't have a JV softball team this year!

Something is very wrong with the sport programs at these two schools. I know the talent is there. I think FCH is a good school otherwise.

He could not be any worse than the McIntosh varsity baseball coach.

the administration. Campbell is no better. The principal stays hidden in his office most of the time because he is afraid of confrontation. He doesn't want to deal with anything so he makes knee jerk reactions to get the heat off of him. He will probably give in to the people who want to fire Coach Webb. He has no backbone to stand up to anybody. The thing is everbody in FC education wants to pass the buck to someone else. Nobody has enough guts to stand up and either tell the parents to shut up and support the coach , or take your son out of the football program and join the band. Playing athletics is not a right it is a priveledge. It is not a right to get a scholarship. If your son is good enough college coaches will find him. Coach Webb is a good man and a fine coach.

We are talking about a 5-35 season here. Your advice is to take our sons out of the program. I don't think that will help the Coach's vision of improving next season. He's counting on the rising senior class. You're correct playing is a privilege but at FCHS everyone makes the team so it has become a right especially if you are an upperclassman.

I need to specify what sentence in a post I agree with. I have made that mistake before. I'm learning! Smiling

I do not know much about the football program at FCHS. I don't know the coach or any of the parents. My comment was about the sport programs in general at FCH and FMS. Most of the the information I have is about the softball program.

I have heard that Mr. Campbell is not responsive.

I support all the young people who play sports and wish them the very best.

This sounds so unbelievable to me, but I was told the football parents at an FC high school demanded a particular coach. They put their money where their mouths are, too, by supplementing his salary so an offer he couldn't refuse helped convince him to accept the position. Could this be true?

I totally agree that Coach Webb is a good man and if a player has talent with big potential, college scouts will find him.

I was also told the above un-mentioned football coach gets 2 weeks in a player's parents' condo on the beach each year. Sweet deal, I guess, when you can find it.

Let's be realistic. Athlete scholarships for many student-athletes are a way to go to college. Every family does not have the financial means to pay for their child, and if you can get a scholarship and avoid student loans it is great. Everyone says Webb is a good man, and being a high school football coach and a father of college students, he knows all sides of the story. Now, wouldn't a good man want to see his players have the best opportunity possible to continue their education beyond high school? Then wouldn't this good man work to help his players get attention from college recruiters?

Look at the real picture. There are around 300 if not more high school football programs in Georgia alone. Factor in each high school football program has around 60 players. College recruiters are not going to know about each and every high school football program in Georgia, as well as, they are not going to know about every high school football player. Now factor in a team that has only won 5 games in 4 years. The average coach that might not have a winning team, but knows he has some players that can play on the next level, is going to make phone calls to recruiters, inform those players about camps and combines, and will produce highlight tapes of those players and send them to various college football programs. HE IS GOING TO MARKET THOSE PLAYERS. Coach Webb will not lift a finger to help his players that want a shot at the next level. It is bad enough that he does not know how to teach them the game of football.

Coach Webb helps friends that are fired from football programs for not producing, and brings them into the the program where he is not producing. Coach Webb will not put players on the field because of his own personal feelings. Coach Webb has had to have a police escort, because he has not been good to his players or his parents. BUT Coach Webb wants his parents to continue to buy him top notch equipment and then not produce a winning team.

The talent is there, but he does not want to use it. The scholarship opportunities are there, but the parents have to do what coaches at other schools do for their kids. Good man, I don't know, it is questionable when I think of how this year alone, he has brought a man into our program that wants $100 dollars for each player that he produces a basic highlight film. The booster club bought Webb state of the art computer editing equipment 2 years ago to produce highlight film and game tapes, but now he is outsourcing it for a kickback.

Good Man? Hmmm, I have to think about that.

FCHS06: I do know everything you've mentioned is true. It looks like at least another year of it, too.

It was frustrating to see the same players play Offense AND Defense, when there was talent standing on the sidelines during each entire game. It has been sad to see any leads at half-time disappear during the second half; but if the same 11 players play every play the entire game, they're going to get exhausted and start fumbling the ball and missing plays.
